1 month into contract Virgin increases cost

I moved from Sky to Virgin at the start of August. Our package costs with Sky had spiralled to £71 per month and Virgin were offering a good package for £44 per month, with better broadband and similar TV etc. This package was for 18 months. However I got a letter a few weeks ago saying the bill is going up by £3.99 a month from start November. It does say that we can change or cancel the package before 31 October without paying cancellation charges.

Firstly has this happened anyone else? I thought that this contract tied us both, they were committed to providing the service at a set price. Is it a Virgin media strategy, win new custom and then up the price a month later?

Second, I would consider moving back to sky if they offer us a decent deal - the virgin TV package is very poor (our TV is too old to be able to connect Scart so we had to get the TIVO box). Has anyone moved back to Sky after such a short period away and been accepted as a new customer?

My other concern of course is that Sky will do the same again. And we've paid steep set up costs for virgin as well which I'm figuring are not recoupable.

If anyone has any experiences to share I'd be really grateful. I'm guessing this has happened other people too.

yeap Virgin must have sent everybody a price increase letter.
They do it at least once a year.

You can of course leave within 30 days of the letter, or complain, say you are thinking of going back to sky and they will remove the increase, mention sky a bit more and you may get a bill credit e.g £20 or £30

I don't think you will get you install cost back, but if you really do want out, phone sky first, explain the situation, and see what they can do for you,

Was the install more than £20 ?

They had the do 2 installs cos the first TV box wasn’t compatible so 2x£20 plus a £40 manned installation charge :( first bill was £168!

Think I will take yr advice and check with sky, what have I got to lose !
