  • Thanks, the programmer is next to a fused switch. Both are next to the boiler which is in the kitchen. Just tried to take the plate off and try and get a photo behind, but I need to fully disconnect.
  • As an aside, just looked at HIVE and that's got identical wiring terminals to the honeywell...... why did nest make it so complex.

You will not need to go in there just put you heat link in place of your original programmer.

Give us a lot easier and the stat runs on batteries so does not need 12v cable or recharging.
  • Yes, get someone in! Anything to do with a boiler should be dealt with by someone who is registered as Gas Safe.

We have a nest, and it only took a couple of hours for someone to install, costing us about £60. It's worth the price to keep you safe.
I don't need either and fitted my thermostat myself!
  • This was the site I was referring to btw aimlesswandering.uk/web/2016/02/new-house-old-tech-replacing-a-danfoss-tp9000-with-a-nest-3rd-gen/

Why? There is no gas involved. An electrician would be more appropriate.

Reading the fitting instructions, it isn't as simple as that. Unlike the rival Hive, the Nest receiver doesn't use an industry standard back plate.

This is where the Hive system scores. Fitting a Hive is a ten minute DIY job. All you need is a screwdriver.

Yes, you get electricians who are gas registered. That's who you should call in.

I personally think anything to do with boilers is just not something worth scrimping on by trying to DIY. You might only be touching electrics, but it's got bigger consequences if you make a mistake.
  • Any electrician is capable of wiring up a thermostat. You only need a gas safe registered engineer if they are doing anything with the gas side if the boiler.
