Fraudulent entry on credit report!

Hi, Ive just received an email from MSE stating that this month's Experian Credit Report has been updatet.

Everything is fine except that there has been a (generic) search by Yorkshire Building Society last week.

The search was at an old address of mine where I moved from over two years ago.

I'm a bit concerned as I've never ever had anything to do with the Yorkshire Building Society, no savings, no credit cards, no banking, absolutely nothing.
And why at my old address?

On the day of the search I did give personal details to an employment agency who called me, but they only had my current address and not the old address.

Now I'm afraid I'm being scammed!
I've tried phoning the Yorkshire Building Society this morning but they are closed until Monday - even the number for their Fraud Dept.

Anyone have any advice or reassurance for me, please?

    Is it a soft search?
  • Is it a soft search?

It just states, 'Identification - generic check'

The last time I had a search entry with 'Identification - generic check' was when I signed up for MSE Experian, and they would probably be checking that I was who I say I was!

'An Identification: Generic check search is used to try to confirm that you are who you say you are, live where you say you live and that there is no information that would prevent the company from offering the product or service that you applied for.'

Have you disputed the search on Experian?

Have you checked your other 2 files as well?

As it's a soft search it means no-one else can see it but you. For the time being just dispute it and keep an eye on your reports for anything suspicious.

Have you had any dealings with YBS's other brands - Chelsea BS, Barnsley BS, Norwich & Peterborough BS?

Haven't disputed it yet, and not update yet on Noddle and Clearscore.

You may be onto something there, thanks.
I didn't realize that Norwich & Peterborough were connected!
I did have a savings account with N&P a few years ago which hasn't been formally closed as I think there must be a few pence in it.
They used to send me various pieces of info and of course these would now be returned as the Redirection of Mail expired after the two year maximum term.
