No idea why so many posters are giving you grief. Living next to a rented house would absolutely be a concern for me and many others.

I value my peace so much though that I wouldn't consider a semi detached or terraced house, even if I had to move to a further out area to get a detach.

What sort of area is it? Students or chaotic families with dogs, and mums who wear their pyjamas to Asda would be my nightmare.
  • Annoying tenants are much easier to move on than !!!!less owners

The UK now has one in three homes rented as people often don't have the money to buy - are you saying that a third of all people are obnoxious?

So just discovered the house next door to the one I have offered on is up for rent. Oddly the for rent sign disappeared when house next door went up for sale.

Perhaps they have now found a new tenant?

I've rented for 13 years since leaving uni (and including uni) out of necessity rather than choice (now looking to buy).

I'm that tenant who has 3 vehicles and a dog  However we have 2 parking bays, ample on street parking for my works vehicle and a young dog which is fully trained to the point our neighbours daughter didn't even know we had him until 4 weeks ago (had him since early spring & all with LL permission).

If you didn't know we rented you wouldn't know we rented (if that makes sense). Our house is kept tidy, garden is immaculate and have never given anyone cause to complain.

What I would like to know is....... how would you have know whether the house next door was/wasn't rented if you hadn't seen the sign?

Some home owners are the most horrific neighbours to have as they believe they are untouchable. I would be more concerned about the ones that aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Maybe when they discover what a judgemental neighbour they might have the potential tenants will decide not to rent.

Have you ever lived next to a home -owners? Goodness, some of [STRIKE]us[/STRIKE]them are obnoxious!

We've just moved after 6 months of looking. We are quiet, considerate pensioners who don't play music or have yapping dogs or noisy kids. Very few visitors so we're ideal neighbours. Next door was family with 4 screaming kids, noisy beyond belief and when we politely asked (once in 8 years) if they could turn the twanging guitar down a bit you wouldn't believe the verbal threats my OH received. We were scared to be honest. We rent, the people next door own their house. What does this prove? Not sure really:D

I didn't see the sign I saw an ad when I googled the street. I rang the letting agents to ask if it were still available. They said yes but next door are selling so they asked us to take the sign down.

Interesting. I'm surprised the landlord of next door was so obliging as to risk a possible longer void period. However I assume it is still online.

I hate living next door to my renting neighbour, he is the epitome of obnoxious. I don't know what gives him the right to think he can cut my grass when I'm away, have his dogs guard both properties and alert us when someone they don't recognise approaches them (came in useful 2 weeks ago when 2 men were scouting around our back gardens, it's a rural property so no way of 'just passing'), help with the installation of a new log burner, giving my son a birthday card.....I literally don't know how I cope??

For the record I am currently renting. I have owned and occupied 4 properties and rented 6.
