We have a cat that seems to live in our office car park, he often jumps into the bonnet of just parked cars, and stretches out and cleans himself. I have seen tiny scratches and clumps of cat fur on my car before now.
He is especially keen on summer, nothing better than a roof down parked convertible, then he enjoys a nap on the car seats.

How about seagulls that do their business on your car eroding the paint. Who do you speak to with this issue? God?

Cats are accepted beings in neighborhoods. If you have issues with what they do, ensure you move somewhere that reduces the chances of them, and move as when required. Of course, you have the option of buying a house with a large garage. If you can't afford it, that's not the cats' problem!

I can understand how annoying it is. Cats are pretty much a law unto themselves and because of this roaming business there isn't much the owner can do. I'd be concerned and try to help if my cat did this to a neighbour. Morally I think they do have some responsibility, although hard to know what they could do!
Water pistol is all I can think of. Or would balancing a plastic bottle filled with water on the car help?
Actually.... We had a cat always mess in our garden so we got a cat siren thingy. Small portable box with a beam that omits a high frequency when the beam is broken. That worked for us. Could you balance one on the car?

You are obviously a moaning git and if I was your neighbour, I would not only get my cat to key your car, I would teach my hamster to break your windscreen...hypothetically of course.

    fizz.x

hypothetically (of course) You might have some serious mental issue.

I work hard mostly 7 days a week for what ? So a cat can poo in a garden do mess where my children play and scratch (damage) my cars. Scratches on 30-40k worth car are a big deal for me because their value is much lower. If You drive £500 Ford Focus it is not a big deal for You lauretta but it it for me and I don't want to build a garage because for a minibuses it is rather hard. Looking forward for more words of wisdom...
  • People do have cats and are happy to have them in their home sitting with their backsides on the kitchen work surfaces (!!!) and they also have a right to let them roam, fine. But not fine if they are damaging property, scratching or urinating and worse in other people gardens (ever come across cat poo when weeding, it's disgusting and buried so difficult to avoid or clear up). Threatening to call the RSPCA because someone has directed a hose at a cat? Perhaps have a think about how many garden birds cats kill each year.

Trying covering key parts of the car cover with tin foil e.g. bonnet - most cats don't like it (some do) and will jump off again pretty quickly.

Or double sided sticky tape, that should do it - but more expensive and much messier for you to deal with when you take covers on and off...

Yes my cat walks on the kitchen worktops, I simply practice more hygiene measures than a non cat household.

I would encourage anyone to use a hose on my cat if they were causing a nuisance. And i certainly count scratching a car a nuisance.

The RSPB themselves say cats are not a major problem when it comes to killing birds.

I asked for a help not for comments e.g.. its not possible, etc.

Try to google how many others have the same problem so IT IS POSSIBLE!!!
So presumably by your logic having done the Google search and finding it is possible, you found no solution to those problems and brought it here.
Do you not think thats your answer then, no solution!
Get yourself one of those magic pens that sorts out scratches OR moan and moan at your neighbour till you cause a dispute and nobody likes you. Simple.
