Thoughts are with peoples who’s forthcoming holidays are disrupted, but above all else the staff at Monarch. Who had no part to play in this mess but now find themselves jobless.
Agreed

Disappointing news for many but at least no-one should be left wondering.
Well they did have their practice run 12 months ago.0 -

Not sure their average plane capacity, but to bring so many back is going to take something like 400 to 600 flights?
Its a big operation.
Shame its gone. They were not the cheapest but they were pleasant to fly. Its a shame there isn't a viable 'middle ground' market above the cheap cattle class carriers any more.0 -

How about we go back to the airlines charging realistic fares for flights again, i.e. the real cost plus a bit of profit for them.
It's about all this cut price, loss-leading, nonsense came to an end. If the "real cost" of a seat to Majorca is £90, then charge £100, and stop all this £9.99 nonsense, with airlines making profit by over-charging for hold baggage, seat reservations, priority boarding, expensive in flight catering etc. Also stop the ridiculous "yo yo" pricing where seats fluctuate widely from week to week - should be a little cheaper many months before, then normal price during peak booking periods, and finally either higher or lower in the last few days according to number of seats remaining.
Sorry, but airlines have done this to themselves by engaging in these stupid pricing tricks. If the "real" price of a seat is £100 then that's what should be charged. Keep it simple. Scrap the exorbitantly priced extras and back-handers from airports etc and get back to basics.0
