Partial settlement flag

I have just found out I have a very old debt with orange, found out because capquest sent a letter offering reduced payment to clear. I double checked by signing up to clear score and it shows on my file but doesn't appear to be a default just an ongoing account but not been with orange since 2010. The debt is £170 but offered £60 to clear it as partially settled. Would this be bad for my "fair" credit rating or would I be better slowly clearing over a few months?

Thanks

Real experience would be good to hear from .

  • Clear it.

    Ignore your 'fair' credit rating.
  • Clear it by taking the deal or suck it up and pay the full amount?
  • Take the deal. The damage is done by the default. All you want now is it to show settled.
  • Getting a little confused now. Just checked clear score again and the amount on there for orange says £243 but capquest says £171.

Hang on a minute, when did you last make payment against this debt to Orange?

When did you last acknowledge the debt with Orange and have any correspondence?

Surely this debt is Statute Barred if from 2010 if you've not made any payments since?
  • According to clear score and Experian the account is showing as in debt but not defaulted. Shows account started Jan 2001 . Every month to date shows a green tick on Experian but always the same outstanding debt of £253 or something like that.
    Bloody weird

Oh and I've not made a payment to orange since around 2010 when I switched to three

When did you last make any payments on it? Maybe the default was registered at £253, and then you made payments that brought the balance down to £171. The default balance is what it was when it was defaulted rather than what your current debt is.

Have you checked it's just one debt? Not two separate Orange debts?
