Hi thePhantom,
I've had my Treo 750v since April this year bought off ebay and have to say its the best combination of PPC and mobile I've had so far. The Treo 500 looks to be the smartphone version of the OS, which I've used in the past, but now will not give up the convenience of a touchscreen. The size is also more pocketable than my MDA PRO which it replaces and the thumbboard is very handy for text input. Screen can be limiting if you've had bigger res screens like the MDA PRO but you get use to it for day to day use.
Personally I don't like the look of the Treo 500, even if it is slim. Slim and wide just doesn't appeal to me and just makes the phone look bigger than it really is. Although the Treo 750v is bulkier it certainly doesn't feel it in the hand. I have WM5 on my 750 but have the firmware to upgrade to WM6 but since it works out of the box with no problems, I've decided to give WM6 a miss until I feel it is necessary.
If you can get 750 for a good price then I would recommend getting it over the 500. But then again I'm bias and there could be features in the 500 which may be more appealing to you. I hear the Kaiser (v1615) is coming to Vodaphone soon too...which may be a further option. But based on experiences with the MDA Pro, if you turn on advance features such as GPS, WIFI, 3G, Bluetooth, etc.... you will find your battery drains very quickly. So having too many features can negate its daily usability, so use them sparingly for best battery performance.

Hi Parallex,
you echo many of my sentiments. The palm v500 does not look good. Also no touch screen. Where did you get the software update to windows mobile 6 for the palm treo v750? Palm now no longer provide the update on the site? Also I learn the windows mobile 6 is much better that the previous one.
Thanks for your detailed letter anyway.

Hi ThePhantom,
You are right, Palm offered the free firmware upgrade in September for a limited period. I was able to download a copy in case I fancied upgrading to WM6. I've not done much detailed research in the benefits of WM6 over WM5, but for now I have my phone customised the way I want. Updating the firmware will mean reinstall software and reconfiguring again which I can't be asked. Maybe in the near future when I see a real need for it. If you can get the Treo 750v with WM6 then you don't need to worry about the upgrade software.
Bear in mind, to make good use of the phone you would require a decent data package for emails and internet access. If you can get a good data tariff with Vodaphone then great, otherwise money is wasted on the Treo 750v. I would recommend getting and unlocked version from ebay and signing up to either T-mobile or Three to take advantage of their 1GB add-ons.
Good luck,
