  • Are they marketed as hiking boots or mountain boots?
Go to Sean's link at post #5.

The boots are marketed as walking boots.

The OP has damaged the boots while hiking over rough terrain and therefore has no valid complaint.

    I know ;)

Was trying to highlight to OP that walking boots aren't mountain boots (which would be suitable for jagged rocks).

Walking shoes tend to be lightweight designed for comfort & walking long distances rather than durability over rough terrain.

    Yes it's those exact boots.

Surely scraping against rocks would be reasonably considered as something that would happen during hiking and that if the boots are marketed as hiking boots that they should be able to withstand said action for a resonable amount of time.

Well, they only have YOUR WORD that you did "said action".

Their only evidence is a pair of boots which appear to have been ripped in a manner consistent with user error.

This, however, does not mean that they are CORRECT! You are perfectly entitled to obtain a fault report which shows that the material had a manufacturing error (not necessarily the same as simply being made of material which is easier to tear) and take Sports Direct to small claims court. That's your next step.
  • Karrimore used to produce great products, I still have 2 sets of their cycle panniers and a pair of old walking boots, that are pretty much indestructible. Those however were Brittish made kit, not the cheap Chinese rubbish that now carries this, now SD owned, brand.

I agree. I still have stuff of theirs purchased around 20 years ago (mid to late 90's) and despite being heavily used, are still in almost new condition.

Unfortunately the UK in general seem to be obsessed with lower prices no matter the cost.

They certainly should not still be able to stitch that union flag onto these shoes and boots.
