First off I wouldn't claim to be an expert. I only know what my own research has turned up a couple of years back.
The batteries I've seen that have protection and come near the rated capacity have been more, not less expensive.

Vaping devices often don't use protected batteries apparently.
I don't vape, or intend to vape, so I've no interest in that.

It's difficult to tell what protection is, or isn't included in any device the batteries are used in.

Plenty of the cheap makes of battery on eBay say they are "protected" and they are not.

For myself I prefer "belt and braces"
Protected batteries and separate good quality charger for me.
But you pays your money and takes your choice.

Only 2 battery sellers I'd trust on ebay (the_big_f_d_d and ecoluxshop), both of whom test batteries before they will sell them. Sensible about using separate charger, the safest way to charge

Generally avoid any battery with Fire in the name - their torches are good, the batteries not so (and more likely to be fakes and/or poor quality)

Bought mine from ebay. T6 LED 1,0000000lumens (fake claims) Probably a couple of hundred lumens but its bright and zoomable. Came with 2 6800mah batteries (not genuine). Also came with a mains charger that i took apart to see how dangerous it was ( VERY VERY ) and threw it in the bin.

The torch itself though is very good. The batteries supplied are over 1000mah, which is to be expected.

Buy some genuine Samsung 18650 cells, If less than £5 be suspicious.
