70% off LED Torches?

Morning,

I was wondering if anyone here had any torches advice. I don't want to spend several hundred dollars, but I do want something bright, fairly sized, and good priced. And I found this rechargeable torch on amazon is on sale for 70% off with the voucher, which makes the price (10 quid) too good to be true?
The torch does provide max 500 lumens and also with a rechargeable battery.

The torch i found: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tactical-Flashlights-Rechargeable-Emergencies/dp/B06WGS4P2W/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports&ie=UTF8&sr=1-1&keywords=Torch+Rechargeable

Preferably bright LED's but if anyone knows anything else, please say it.

Torches can be pretty cheap now - I ordered these yesterday - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01NBOGNYB/

That torch does look like it fits in the £10 to £20 category. Looks quite nice and can charge your phone from it. It's not a £35 torch though

I am confused why you plan on spending dollars in the UK amazon store

No real need for rechargable batteries in LED torches.

My money would go on a Maglite Mini LED 2xAA (about £20), as I already have one and the batteries (always use alkaline) last forever.

There are cheaper LED torches that are really good and use 18650 rechargeable batteries, but I don't recommend because the market is flooded with fake batteries and dangerous chargers. Good torch, but you really have to know what your doing to avoid dangerous batteries.

Hi, thanks for your response. The torch can be rather cheap but I want to get a torch with rechargeable battery. Is it AA battery built-in the torch you recommended?

Agreed! I was just going to post about the 18650 type batteries in torches.
The batteries supplied are often dangerous, and are way under the claimed capacity (mAh)
The ones I have had supplied with torches lacked the protection circuitry they are supposed to have.
The chargers supplied are often suspect as well.
There is lots about this online. It's not just scaremongering.
Be aware that "proper" 18650s with the protection circuit are very slightly longer than those without, and some torches won't accept them.
Buy a recognised make from a good known source.

some are, some from China. Each product page tells you which warehouse they are at.

It's a single replaceable AA battery. And I've got a pile of high-capacity rechargeable AAs. With these I can carry around a few spare batteries - and it only takes an hour to charge several of them. I can see the benefit of USB charging... and ironically I use a USB powerpack as a torch a lot of the time.

There are loads of rechargeable torches on Amazon .. they all use similar LED components.

18650's aren't only made with protection, and the ones that are usually are cheaper makes with dubious capacity ratings. Most devices that take 18650s have built-in protection, hence no need for the batteries to have protection ccts.

Get decent quality samsung, sony or lg batteries and you won't go far wrong..
