O/S Daily Wednesday 27 September 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Now getting light, still reasonably mild, I have a basket of washing to go out on the line.

Dinner last night was roasted potatoes, gammon, egg and peas. Tonight we're having full english, I remembered to get the sausages and bacon out to defrost. I need to decide about tomorrow night's dinner also, may make a lasagna and do some stuffed jacket potatoes to go with it and HM coleslaw (as I have the ingredients in the fridge and they will get thrown away if not used soon).

Last night when I got home from work I was able to get on the phone and arrange the breakdown cover for all the family cars, I've been researching to see if it would be cheaper for us all to take breakdown cover offered with the individual car insurance policies, but it's way more expensive, so have just done change of vehicles for 2 of the 3 cars on the policy. Today I'm working all day, but then I'm on days' off until Monday. We're out both days' this weekend so that will make a nice change.

Tomorrow I'll have the normal "to do" list, so will crack on with it.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning Nmlc and all.

Restless nights sleep for me. Spent most of it trying to drown out the snores of Grump and 2 dogs.

Bedding day for me. Need to do a bit of paperwork and chase up our new bed. It should have been delivered last week but I've heard nothing.

Glad to say, I've finished decluttering 50 years worth of junk. Apart from Grumps shed which is his shrine, everything in the house now is used and has purpose.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

  • Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

I will be back at work today, for the rest of the week. Today is a long day but the two following days won't be.
Today we have yet another retirement lunch at work and this one is catered. However, we are taking in the puddings or desserts so I have chocolate cherry brownies and chocolate concrete. I have an early appointment the other side of the city so these will have to travel with me on the bus, along with my laptop trolley bag and my own handbag. So I am hoping that by the time I reach the office the brownies will not be all squashed and the chocolate concrete will not be crumbs. I had two eager testers watching me last night so not quite all the cakes are in the boxes. At least licking the brownie bowl cuts down on the washing up a bit.

It looks dry this morning but I shall have to leave the next lot of washing to another day because stuff hung outside is not quite dry enough to put away and seems to be taking a long time to feel fully aired and the airing racks are full. I don't want to put the heating on quite yet, though that wouled sort that out - but at a price!

Yesterday, in the Co#p I got Y'S bread, sliced wholemeal for toast at 21 pence and two little gem lettuces for 22 pence. My thrift pinnacle of the week.

OH will cook for himself and son today and I'll find something when I come in.

Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Morning everyone,

Thanks you for starting us off nmlc.

I think today is going to be one of those days where I have trouble getting myself organised. I’ve got that horrible feeling that there is something that I should be doing, but there isn’t anything in my diary. It’s a friend’s birthday, but I’m seeing her next week to celebrate so it’s not that. I think I’ll just go with the flow and see how the day unfolds.

The housework is up to date so at least I don’t have any cleaning to do today. I need to motivate myself to go into town. I’ve something to collect from M&S that I ordered.

Dinner tonight will be fish pie. I got the fish out to defrost last night and cooked the hardboiled egg to go in it. I had a craving for this yesterday afternoon but couldn’t find the get up and go to make it.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing

    Morning all

Bit gloomy here this morning but no rain yet, its meant to stay dry but we will see. Off to work for me, its getting much quieter at the moment, its not really a place you want to go in the winter.

Need to pull something out for dinner tonight, I think there is some chicken in there so I might to fajitas we have not had them for a while.

I need to do a wash tonight and hoover through. Our new kitchen is being delivered Sunday, it will have to be stored in the conservatory for now until OH can get it fitted which hopefully wont be too long !

Little Evie is still under the covers, she is getting more and more reluctant to get up on these cold mornings, she will wait till the last moment then rush down :rotfl:

Right I had better get on have good days all xx

    Morning all

Sleeping pill induced sleep for me last night...needs must and all that. I could happily have slept for another 4 hours though.

Work is :mad::mad: atm and I am at the end of my tether. No amount of complaints solves anything and I just don't know what to do. It's actually making me quite ill, palpitations, shaking, headaches. I know it's stress related, but I do not want to leave. I just want the powers that be to act :(

Anyway, I'm here because I'm making a point by being late. Maybe not the best plan but nothing else has made them sit up and take note. :(

Sorry for the rant, I have a headache coming on...maybe I will just stay at home today!

Have a good day all x

  • Good morning chums up with the birds this morning ,no doubt I will flag later :). Just looking online for some Jo Malone shower stuff for my DD to take out to NYC as Christmas gift for my DGS wife.DD is going out there next month for a week and will be taking Christmas gifts with her(saves postage).DGS 27th birthday in November as well, havn't a clue what to buy him though. What do you buy some one who has virtually anything he wants or needs .At the end of next year he may be moved by his firm to California so no good getting stuff for their apartment as they would only have to pack it up when they move,so I have to buy something small and portable hence the nice bath stuff for his wife. Completely stumped at the moment. I'll have to put my thinking cap on ,any ideas would be welcome:):)
Weather looks good for today around 19c with only overnight rain later Still quite warm though and no heating on as yet.

Youngest DD is hoping to get us all a break on our beloved IoW for Easter next year maybe a caravan for 5 days as we did this year.Next August's family holiday is booked already over there :).

Hope you all have a good day
Happy wednesday halfway through another week already

    Cheers chums

Morning all - it's getting light very slowly here, at 6.30 it was still dark. Weather forecast is for rain again. No washing get hung out!

I did a load of emailing to my students last night, prepping some for today and others for next week. Then I got a call asking if I'd be willing to teach another class for a colleague who is struggling with the content. It'd be almost 2 hours down towards Glasgow so I suggested a Thursday or Friday so I can hop onto the ferry afterwards which takes me to Gourock which is a short drive to Glasgow. We'll see!

Today I'm teaching first thing (all by video to about five other centres) and then have a little banking to do. My volunteer expenses get paid every month by cheque, the treasurer flatly refuses to use internet banking, so I have to deposit it. No shopping as I'm eating up the lovely sourdough loaf I bought at the weekend, and there's plenty of meat and veg in the fridge.

Karcher - I faced the same kind of situation in 2013 and battled for ages not to resign. Bosses didn't want me to go, I didn't want to go but all the problems weren't being addressed never mind resolved. Luckily I was in a position to just walk away completely and now don't look back. I hope things work out for you.

I hope that everyone has a happy Wednesday.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Not too clever this morning, OH had 3 attacks of breathlessness yesterday, is in hospital waiting to see the Dr.

Looks like it might be visiting again, waiting for s phone call.
  • Morning all,

Late night last night in work meant I skipped the gym this morning. In fairness, I'm playing football tonight so that'll be my exercise.

Not much else to report from moi.

HH - I have those days occaisionally. Usually if I have a call scheduled at some point, the rest of my day is wasted in the build up to it.
Karcher - Hope today isn't too painful.
csarina - Oh dear, hope he's ok.
