Yeah thanks, I know what you mean. I just didn't want to be worried at my party thinking they're speeding along the motorway.

They're saying OK, and sending me hearts and kisses via text! So they might have got the message! :)

Or they may be stubbornly humouring you...

There's also one issue to consider, and that's alcohol. Won't they take the day off work on the day after the party so that they can relax?

Can't see them drinking (or at least one of them) if they're driving home.

I don't know. Having to work the next day could be a white lie, rather than saying they can't afford a hotel. I'm hoping they will stay over at mine and drive home the next day.

Thanks for your help guys! :)

I think I would be concerned how tired the driver would be travelling back, sorry for the spanner in the works.
  • Of no use whatsoever here but a stress free route could be M56/A483/A470 through Mid Wales when they don't need to rush

Road closures on the A483 near Oswestry also.

Even without the road closures wont that way add another hour onto the journey?

Makes more sense to do M56-M53-A55-A483...Miid-Wales is quite a slow route once past Oswestry, but there are options from Oswestry/Shrewsbury that could be better than "dodge the roadworks" on the M5...A49 is shortest & quickest from Shrewsbury via Hereford :)

If they go that way they will arrive so late for the party they will have to turn round immediately to be home in time for work the next day. ;)

Both of these routes are considerably slower than the M6/M5/M50/A40/A449/M4 route, even with the roadworks. All dual carriageway or motorway all the way. I'd only consider these two routes if there was a major problem.

Was just going to post the M50/A449. It would be the one I'd take. I used to do deliveries to Welshpool and then on to just west of Cardiff and I've tried just about every route there is through Wales and not one of them is one I'd choose if I wanted to get anywhere quickly. Now if I wanted a nice scenic drive that would be an entirely different matter....
