Well, they fixed it up, and replaced the spring and linkage. My emergency cash reserves are officially dead. They are pining for the fjords...
The garage also replaced the back brakes. After listening to their spiele about "Your brakes will be dodgy for a while, be careful." I made my way home.
Then some dizzy dame pulled out in front of me in a manoeuvre so stupid, my misspent-childhood reflexes jumped up like a jack-in-the-box screaming "Surprise!! Remember us?! TBH...I think I'm having one of "those" months...
Hopefully it's not one of "those" years, and that I'm being a bit premature thinking things will improve.
OTOH, npower finally have a final meter reading they can believe in.
And BG finally have realised (or so they claim) that a final meter reading means you've moved out the house, and they can't bill you any more.
It's only the 26th, and I handed the keys back on the 31st...

Just realised, I may have been ambiguous. I drove my car back home. It wasn't dangerous to drive, just MOTs don't like broken bits. Hence the slightly old controversy about the engine management light being on being an MOT failure.
