  • Glad you managed to get the plumbing incident sorted out quickly.

Hope the freezer sorts itself out and your back gets better soon xx

  • According to the link Noella put up, as our freezer is almost full the food should be okay for 48 hours as long as we don't open the freezer door. So that gives us until 6pm tomorrow. Hopefully by then the freezer motor will dry out and stop tripping the trip switch.

We can eat egg and beans on toast for dinner so we don't have to open the freezer.

    Glad the link was useful:T

I think you might find, as I did, that some frozen veg tends to thaw out faster than, say, packs of sausages which tend to form a solid block. I found a chest freezer full of stuff stayed frozen for longer than one with drawers too. I had breakdowns of both types over the years:eek:. Very panic-inducing events especially the one which happened when I was in debt and money able to be spent on groceries was very restricted.

I have an urge to spend some money.

Our back gate is rotten and disintegrating and so is the frame, and I feel like it's compromising our security from burglars, intruders etc. Also people in the back lane can see straight into our kitchen (a complete stranger waved at me once from the back lane when I was in the kitchen once :() so I would love to have a fence built along the top of our back wall which is only about 4-5 feet high.

I've no idea how much money all this woould cost. My heart would love to do it but my head says save the money as we'll need to pay our accountants soon.

We could get a quote I suppose and then wait and see how much money we can earn to try and pay for it.

It was very useful thank you Noella :). We have an upright freezer with drawers but it's well insulated and quite and I think it'll be okay until tomorrow evening. If all the food melts and the freezer never works again we'll have to claim it on the house insurance as it would be worth paying the excess then.

Wouldn't hurt to get a couple of quotes to see how much it would cost, at least then you would have an idea of how much to save up once your accountant is paid.

I think the outlay would be money well spent, HH, and an essential rather than frivolous expense especially as the lane behind your house is a public thoroughfare. The family's security is priceless and sadly, these days, we all have to be vigilant all the time. It shouldn't cost all that much so if I were you I'd definitely get a quote or two just so you know what sort of sum you'll need.

I keep pestering DH to let us have some gates at the entrance to our drive but he refuses every time because we are both car owners and forever coming and going several times a day. I wouldn't mind having to open and close them each time but he's adamant he'll find it a real pain:(. It's a very wide driveway so would nee some big gates. The potential expense of it isn't helping my case:(. We have a gate at the other side of the house so anyone coming up the path to the front door can't walk round to the back but everyone just comes up the drive anyway and right round the back. I object to strangers walking past my kitchen and sitting room windows (glancing in on lots of occasions) on their way to the back door. People don't seem to want to ring the front doorbell, they all seem to prefer the back door:eek:. I'm seriously thinking of putting a sign up telling all callers to ring the front door bell but DH thinks it sounds heavy-handed. People coming round the back, even strangers, doesn't seem to bother him like it does me.

Thank you both :) It wouldn't hurt to get a quote would it.

Getting a quote would be a good idea. It might be less than you think so more manageable and achievable, or if not, like you said, gives you an idea of what to aim for.

Sorry about the plumbing, what a nightmare. Hopefully your food stays ok and the fridge motor dries out. Fingers crossed anyway.

Sometimes you have half terms like that and others you are really productive and feel like you have achieved the impossible. Sorry yours wasn't the best. Hopefully the six weeks will be much better for you and you get to do everything you want. NT will help you massively. xx
