Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

DH and I have spent an hour on the VAT return. We'll finish it tomorrow but I have a good idea of how much we'll have to pay this quarter now.
DH has also agreed to de register for VAT at the end of March and I'm delighted because I've been wanting that outcome for years. There are some new regulations coming in that will make it hideously complicated and we'd have to buy some new software to file our returns online . So even DH has decided that it's got too much to cope with. Less stress all around.
I've also filed away a load of bank statements, etc, that have been lying around our office.
I am now officially shattered! But I'm pleased with all our efforts today :T. We've worked hard and got a lot achieved.

Great work HH , at least you can say now that you tried and even if nothing comes of your claims you won't wonder what if. I very much doubt though that you will be getting nothing . Let's wait and see.
Good news on the VAT situation as well .
I think you have done brilliantly. Have a good evening .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I never had a Stetson, in fact I was never into any kind of hats.
I did like the occasional bandana though:o and remember wearing a really fetching (in my opinion anyway:rotfl:)home-made tie-dyed red one in the late 60s when I was visiting my cousin who had 2 young daughters. The 4 year-old was really sweet, came up and gave me a cuddle and told me she hoped my head would get better soon. I think she thought it was a blood-stained bandage:rotfl::eek:

My nephew (4 at the time) loved scooby doo. We had just been to Disney and i framed a photo of the character, which I had taken especially for him, framed as a proper framed pic but made in cardboard covered with bright children's wrapping paper to give him as they were going to Disney soon. I thought it would get him excited about seeing the characters. He looked at it and asked did you make this? Terribly proudly that I had made something for my darling little nephew I said yes i had and waited on the thanks to roll in. Instead he asked- "Couldn't you gave bought a better one?" Soon brought me back to earth :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::T:T:T:rotfl: cue mortified sis in law but I found it hilarious and still do

I'm very pleased with myself and DH because for years we've been victims that have been kicked around like a football by the financial institutions. They've traded on our ignorance, poverty and desperation to exploit and make money from us. Finally we're fighting back :j.
FANTASTIC love this. No one minds a business making a profit but its sickening some of these large institutions making sky high money out of us. And I include the trains and electric/gas type institution here too. When they announce their profits as "only" blah de blah million etc. They should be happy to break even these type of firms as its us us us that pay for these profits. Nothing wrong with breaking even. It means you have priced your product right to get it sold, cna pay your overheads and staff and not lost anything.
Sorry.rant over
Sorry that got a bit communist-y (which us a great idea in theory but humans seem incapable of making it work)

I agree Daisy. I don't mind private companies making profits, but when people can't afford to heat their homes and energy companies are making millions in profit it seems unfair. Also when people lose their homes due to not understanding the terms and conditions on their mortgage etc it seem immoral when the banks are making fat profits .
I can rant too .Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Votes for Daisy :rotfl:.
Thanks DIA. In my experience of being self employed there are many times when you put in the work and reap zero rewards. But I'll try and be more optimistic this time
