We got paid enough to pay for six months car tax and to catch up with our NPow3r payments. But when DH went to pay the car tax he realised our MOT has run out :(. So he couldn't pay the car tax. DH thought the MOT expired in November. We've got the car booked in to the garage but they can't do it until Saturday. I hope we don't get fined. Plus we need someone else to pay us before Saturday so we can pay for the MOT. I hope the car passes or we are really in the sh*t :(.

It never rains but it pours. DH is so stressed he's been waking up at 5am every morning this week :(.

I know we should have a pot for car expenses, but we can't afford to save one at the moment :(.

I've always liked the idea of a an old fashioned hob kettle. We have an (expensive!) electric kettle that leaks from the bottom of the spout. One day I will get over my objection to throwing away something that still works, especially now that the boys use it to make themselves noodles.

Beanie/INOD my SIL had a one cup one when they first came out, she said not hot enough so the tea didn't brew properly and she couldn't use it for instant gravy? Was she just unlucky?

    I would say so.
    I love mine :)

  • In better news it is one year today since we paid off our credit card debts . It's been a very strange year, but at least we don't have any consumer debt. If we could afford to we would celebrate.

I did the weekly food shop at Mr T this morning. It came in on budget at £58 :T. As DS1 gave me some money to buy him halloween chocs, this took it over £60 and we got a petrol voucher for 10p off a litre :T.

  • Young people don't think sometimes, too much going on, but I agree with Beanie. Just a little more from DS especially with higher energy costs in the cold weather would make a difference. Could you bear to ask?

I don't know :o. What we should do is ask DS2 to give us money for his keep. We haven't asked him before due to his illness. He should be going abroad soon, but we thought when he gets back we would ask him to contribute the same amount as DS1. Then we'd have more to put towards the bills.

I reallt think you should ask DS2 for a contribution to his keep.
I appreciate what you are saying about his illness but even £15 a week would be good for you & I am sure that he would not mind.
    Please think about it :)

  • Yes we've definitely decided to ask DS2 for £20 a week, which is what DS1 gives us. DS2 is going abroad very soon, but we'll ask him as soon as he gets back from his trip. We'll save on food and electricity while he's abroad.

  • Can you not use the car till Saturday? I didn't realise mine had run out till the tax renewal didn't go through, was horrified but had driven it for a couple of months without realising. Probably pure luck that I don't drive in the city. Didn't drive it again once I knew though.

Everything crossed that the MOT goes ok
  • You are allowed to drive the car to get an mot even after the old one has expired so if you don't use the car until Saturday you should be fine. I would be wary about driving it otherwise as number plate recognition/ car databases means that police can pick up cars with no mot and issue fines.
