Your menu sounds fine, HH:T. I must have missed an earlier post when you mentioned that you're vegetarian. Or do you just not like chicken? I'm sure your friends are happy just to spend a nice evening in you and your family's company. Being fed is a bonus and I'm sure they'll go home (eventually!) very happy.

I'm glad you've got everything organised so you can still enjoy your regular Saturday morning outing:T. I'm doing my first outdoor car boot sale of the year early tomorrow morning and this week has been completely taken up with digging long-forgotten tat out of the sheds, cleaning/polishing it up and packing the car. The hope of making a bit of money from it is a big motivator for clearing the clutter;). Sadly, a lot of other things, such as enjoying the lovely weather, have fallen by the wayside this week, I'm not a multi-tasker like you are:o.

Crumbs I had a busy day yesterday!

I did my Saturday saunter and acquired three books :). I got 'Need You Dead' by Peter James in hardbook for £2 (RRP £20), 'Death and the Maiden' by Gladys Mitchell for £1.25 and ''Double Inemnity' by James M Cain for '£1.25. All good clean copies. I'd earnt some survey money so also spent £18 on a summer tee shirt :).

It was baking hot in town and people were dressed in the usual odd assortment of clothing when the weather changes suddenly :rotfl:. Some were dressed for a heatwave, some still in winter clothes, some half and half (think jumper and shorts) :rotfl:. I do love a bit of people watching.

When I got back DH was painting the kitchen ceiling with stain blocker! We keep getting a leak from the bathroom sink because DS2 washes like a seal , plus there was still a brown water stain left from when our shower had a leaky pipe under the floor . It looks much better now :T.

I vacuumed and tidied and helped DH put the painting things away and together we got the food ready. I was shattered by the time our friends arrived! We had a really great time though and they loved the food, so I'm glad we invited them :T.

We've got a bit of clearing up to do today (mainly washing saucepans etc) but the house looks great because it's so clean and tidy :T.

Our friends mentioned they're going to have a birthday party in their garden in the summer, we had a great time at their party last year so we're looking forward to that :).

  • Today it's beautifully sunny again but a bit cooler. The clearing up from last night is done, so my plans today include laundry, ironing summer tops, plus pruning and weeding in the garden. I should also schedule in some relaxation, then off to my parents for dinner tonight :).

Does anyone else have two distinct wardrobes for summer and winter? In the winter I wear mainly jeans, jumpers, hoodies, trainers, loafers and a warm jacket or raincoat. Then in the summer all that gets packed away and I wear sandals, chinos or linen trousers, tee shirts and a light summer jacket.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Sunday :).

  • I forgot to say that I dropped off three jumpers, a couple of tee shirts and some jewellery at the charity shop yesterday. All stuff I hadn't worn for years. It's good to get rid of clutter :).

I feel so tired after yesterday that I'm actually going to lie down for an hour, it's suddenly come over me :o.

It was good that you kept to your Saturday saunter Hairy. Books were a good bargain too. I love "Double Indemnity." James M Cain wrote some terrific books - have you read "Mildred Pierce"?

Your dinner party sounded fun - I haven't got a table anymore so can't entertain a proper "sit down" but sometimes have friends around for picky bits that I put out on the side tables and TV unit! Plenty of wine as well of course!:D. Reading the earlier posts on wine - it's worth having a look at the various newspapers' wine columns which a lot of them print once a week. Good value wines from the supermarkets are nearly always mentioned - including Aldi and Lidl.

I have two wardrobes for the warm and cold months too. It's essential with a climate like ours!:D

Good job on the de-cluttering as well. Enjoy your relax!

I haven't read Mildred Pearce, I'll look out for her. Newspaper wine columns is a good idea. Your get togethers with friends sound fun :).

I slept for an hour and a half in the end! I must have needed it, but then I did do 12,909 steps, 24 floors, 5.4 miles and used 2,374 calories yesterday! That will help to make up for all the rich food I ate :o.

DH did my ironing :D and we're off to my parents now :).

I'm the odd one out when the suns out and still dress in jeans and a jumper :o

I won't wear short sleeves! Nor anything other than jeans :rotfl:
