Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

DS3 should be eligible for a £1,500 bursary for the year from the university, based on our low income.
But he's going to be borrowing £9,200 for the first year's tuition and £11,000 maintenance loan, half of which will go on accommodation. I just hope it's worth it
.
If he doesn't need it all he could save some and borrow less for the second year. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Yes, see how it goes.
Ikea for the basics.
Check is his halls have duvets/covers.
We dident & bought them & they had them.
Depending on what he is studying books can be expensive~~second hand be good depending on which editions he needs.
I feel sick when I think of DS's student debt.

Yes we'll check what's provided with his accommodation. Second hand is definitely good. We have some stuff we bought for DS1 to go to uni in a box in the void which we can give to DS3, so most of the kitchen equipment etc he should need will be in there.
Do you think being a student helped your DS to get a better job Beanie?Cumbria_lass wrote: »It's eye watering the cost of university now. Glad my two have well done with that. At least he is getting something.
It is a worry for them and us. You just hope they get a better job/earn more money at the end of it, but there's no guarantees.

I enjoyed my volunteering this morning. When I left the staff were puzzling over a word an infant had written which looked like "a p***s", trying to work out what it was meant to say :rotfl::rotfl:.
Then work in the office this afternoon. I have to say that the morning went quicker!
DH went to the doctor this morning for blood tests and a medication review after his TIA. The doctor was very thorough. DH also requested a prostate test from the phlebotomist, just to be on the safe side after what happened to his brother. The doctor was very thorough :T.
I hope everyone has had a good Thursday and remember, it's nearly the weekend :j:j:j.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I think with uni it can really depend on what the degree is and what type of job they want to do. But it's a good experience and nobody I know who's been to uni has regretted it, despite the debt. It is treated differently to 'normal' debt I believe.
