I really considered teaching years ago when there was a scheme to fast track TAs.....I’m so pleased now I decided against it. The number of teachers I see stressed or in tears and abuse some parents give - no amount of money is worth it. But I know many, many teachers who do a fantastic job - but it’s not for everyone. I love my role within the classroom with less responsibilities- ok a lot less money too but I get the lovely side of being with the children.

You obviously made the right career choice, milann. You sound very happy in your work:beer:

Talking of abuse you should see the amount health service personnel get:eek:. My oldest daughter is a junior doctor in A&E in a city hospital, often on night shift. Lots of patients have to be escorted in by police, sometimes in cuffs:eek:. She has had her collarbone broken by a stroppy patient high on drugs who lashed out, plus lost a front tooth in another incident. My younger son is a paramedic in a different city and has had bricks and other missiles thrown at him and his co-worker more than once when attending 'trouble' in certain areas. Their ambulance has often been vandalised and attempted robberies of equipment and drugs made. My oldest son is in the army and, bizarrely I worry less about him than the other 2. It's a sad world we live in:(
  • Oh wow FS. That is awful. I work in a referral unit where students have been excluded from schools. I get chairs chucked at me regularly not to mention the level of verbal abuse. Being spat at is common, as well as them lashing out. I know what to expect when I walk into work, but would not expect people to be so disrespecting of the other careers. x

When I was having my leg plastered, the lovely cheerful lady who works in the plaster room told me she'd received abuse from a bloke in the waiting area when all she'd done was be nice to him - what do these idiots get out of it!!! It gets me so angry
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Have a pleasant coffee meeting, and good luck with the Xmas un-decorating.

Only heard this evening that DD2, who is just recovering from pneumonia (thank goodness for antibiotics) and DGS are coming round tomorrow, so I've just had a top speed tidy-up of the dining-table and settee which were covered with Xmas bits'n bobs I was GOING to put away !!

Thanks Elizabeth :). I'm glad DD2 is getting better and at least it forced you to put the Xmas bits away :).

  • I hope you enjoyed your Saturday coffee and catch-up with Stepdad, HHOD:). I seem to remember seeing you mention that he is selling the house and he and his new lady are marrying this Spring. Any more news of developments?

It's lovely to see a blue, even if only pale blue, sky for the first time in ages. It was bitterly cold here last night and I had to give the car windscreens a really good scrape before I went out before 9.00. Some of the bird water containers in the garden are still frozen solid even now:eek:. I broke the ice on some and the bird bath but didn't have time to do them all. Didn't bargain on going out today but had an SOS from a very elderly neighbour needing a lift to hospital as her husband (recovering from surgery) has had a relapse this morning. I always tell her to phone me anytime she needs a lift, if I'm not available DH probably would be. It's so rural here with no buses anywhere near and none at all on Sundays. Taxis are unaffordable as they have to travel so far from the nearest town (7 miles) even to get here in the first place. The joys of country living, NOT! She's decided to stay for the day so I came straight home. Still icy stretches on the more isolated lanes:(, driving definitely wasn't fun this morning. She said a relative is on his way and will bring her home when it's time so I can 'relax' now and do what I planned to do all along. I was glad of an excuse to put it off though, a bit of a reprieve when I was called away;). I HATE giving a good clean to the inside of the oven but needs must:mad:

Whatever you're doing I hope the sun is shining for you and you manage to get some quality time with DH and hopefully outdoors.

Thanks FS :). Yes the house is up for sale which is sad :(. The wedding is in about a months time!

It's very kind of you to help your neighbour :).

  • Thanks everyone :). I agree that teaching is a tough career and definitely not for everyone. You don't see any elderly teachers any more as they all retire early because they get fed up with the workload and stress!

I enjoyed meeting stepdad for coffee and picked up some toiletries we needed afterwards (I took advantage of a few special offers and saved £4 :)).

In the afternoon DH and I went to Mum and stepdad's old house to collect two items of furniture that stepdad said we could have. We also took a few ornaments that will remind me of my Mum and some large plates and bowls that will be useful for entertaining. That took quite a long time and involved two trips. DS1 came and helped carry things which was very helpful.

I felt very tired afterwards but pleased that we had the things.

Today I should have rested or worked on my assignment, but instead I tidied my bedroom as it's been bugging me for weeks :o. I put two empty suitcases and a large box from last Saturday in the void, plus finally took down the berry lights from the living room and was then able to put away a large box full of Christmas lights in the void.

So that was the morning done, then in the afternoon we went back to Mum and stepdad's old house to pick up a few more items. As the house is being sold I won't have that many more opportunities to do this.

Once we got back I felt really tired physically and emotionally and I wished I'd spent more of the weekend resting, I also feel bad that I haven't done any work on my assignment :(. I wish I had another weekend but sadly I don't and I have a busy week coming up. Oh well, it's too late now and the things we got done did need doing.

We still need to clear some space in our bedroom for the two new items of furniture, which will be very useful for storing things that are currently in boxes. I don't know when we'll have time to do that, but hopefully we can do it next weekend . I don't know when I'll get the time or energy to do my assigment, but I suppose at he worst case scenario I can work on it next weekend. I need more time!

I hope everyone has had a good weekend :).

Thanks Milann :). I do feel fine now but everyone at school seems to have a cold so I'm hoping I won't catch it!
