Well done on getting all your shopping done before the big queues, HHOD:T. I'm sure DH3 will like his presents. I bought a Tefal wok from Sainsburys when they had them at that price a few months ago. One of the best purchases I ever made as I use it for all sorts not just stir frying because the deep sides make it so versatile:j. I too love cold cream, any kind not necessarily clotted, or even Greek yoghurt or crème fraiche on hot mince pies. DH likes vanilla ice cream on his but he'd eat ice cream with everything given the chance:rotfl:
Your lights sound lovely:T. I like the plain ones best, the chaser lights annoy me somehow, especially when the craze was for blue ones. The people who lived opposite Mum had flashing blue outside lights and Mum could see them flashing through some of her curtains and thought it was the police attending some sort of incident in the road:rotfl:
I hope you get the chance to relax a bit this evening and start to get into the Christmas spirit:beer:. Will you be enjoying a cider or are you permanently teetotal now?0 -

Thanks FS. The Tef@l woks are good. DH and I have one ourselves and as you say the deep sides make it really easy to cook all kinds of things.
I've gone off flashing lights too as I find them a bit stress inducing, the static ones are more restful. The blue ones can be a bit intense :rotfl:.
I'll see how I feel about drinking alcohol at Christmas, but I probably won't because I still think it would make me too emotional, especially as it's only the second Christmas without my Mum. I don't think I'm permanently teetotal, I'll start drinking again when I feel ready to, whenever that may be.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Just catching up after a few days. So,
I agree the head teacher has a lot to learn. I'm surprised people stay very long when she isn't showing appreciation to ALL her staff.
Glad you are starting to feel better
Your lights sound lovely. So nice you have them after so long not bothering.
Have a relaxing evening so you don't get worn out.If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Christmas lights are just so uplifting, I think. I don't like the chaser variety either, esp the blue ones, as they are like having the start of a migraine.
I know what you mean about these Christmas anniversaries without close family members. This is the 3rd Christmas without Dad & my lovely friend who died the same year, & the 2nd without Mum. It is what it is & I'm OK about it now for most of the time. This week, we've been sorting through old files of photos & found a lovely one of us all at Dad's 80th. It made me sad for quite a few minutes because we knew at that stage that Dad wasn't going to get better, but couldn't have known we'd also have lost Mum a year after that. It all just catches you sometimes, doesn't it?

Yes Christmas can be a difficult time. My life has changed since losing my Mum and occasions like Christmas remind me of that. I'm trying to be positive and focus on the people I have left, but photos can suddenly spark sadness as they remind you of happier times. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I think the head teacher is missing an opportunity by not wishing you at least a Merry Christmas. Everyone likes to be appreciated, no matter what job they do in a team. A small gift also doesn't go amiss .
Well done on getting all your shopping done , I have that to do tomorrow. The lights sound delightful and will brighten up your house,
Are you cooking for lots of people on Christmas Day ?
I managed to do all my housework today , as I am hosting on Christmas Day.Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.0 -

Thank you Sunshine. It's just DH, I and our three DSs on Christmas Day, but on Boxing day we're going to stepdad's for lunch.
Well done on getting all your housework done. I think it would take a solid week to get mine sorted and we've only got three days . I'll have to get a lot done tomorrow.

Hi Hairy - just caught up with you!
Re the head of your school - years ago I worked for an old-school type stockbrokers. We used to get a bonus when the firm had a good year, but the senior partner always made a point of walking around all departments and thanking staff for their work throughout the year and wishing them a merry Christmas. Yesterday at my present firm the managing partner sent an email around to all staff thanking us and wishing all a happy Christmas before he left for his Christmas holiday! Different times now but at least he said thank you!
On a different note, I hang my Christmas cards on ribbons, apart from the cards I receive from my immediate family which go on the living room windowsill. I buy cheap thick parcel wrapping ribbon from the Factory Shop or the like and hang the ribbons over ny living room door (I always keep it open) sticking them at the back of the door by sellotape. I then staple the cards to the ribbons and they make nice, long displays. Saves trying to stand them up and then they fall down when you try to dust round them!:)
Enjoy the rest of your evening. Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟
