You might want to change the title of your thread OP, maybe you'll get more appropriate advice with the correct question (click edit, then click advanced).
You won't be claiming anything off his Public Liability insurance, which is probably why he's so confident going to court, it's obvious you don't know what you are doing if that is what you have threatened him with.
The insurance he would have needed is Professional Indemnity. Did you ask him if he has that?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
For clarity, this is the basis of the claim
". He used whatever materials he had laying around resulting in him using old torn felting for my shed roof, a soft wood threshold for an exterior door which he painted in white gloss despite the external entrance being stained in mahogany, used cream and green tiles in my blue and white bathroom (he tried to make a chequered pattern but didnt have enough green tiles to do so), used untreated soft wood to edge a bathroom vanity unit, failed to cut in when painting walls white, failed to paint the ceilings as agreed, just used a roller in a couple of places on the ceiling, painted windows shut, left the rubbish in my outhouse, broke my toilet flush and left his dried poop around the toilet bowl, used the wrong coloured paint to touch up the kitchen, varnished my wooden floor (which I didnt ask for) varnishing over paint splashes, left paint drips on blinds etc e"
sOunds like one or two crummy handymen that I've dealt with over the years.
Doesn't sound like A job for a builder.
If the op doesn't have spare tiles or spare paint that answers the mismatching questions.
I once had an insurance claim for my bathroom which involved tiles and they'll only replace the damaged ones for example, and they weren't an exact match-not retile the whole bathroom.
One lesson I've passed on to my kids is-never leave builders to work on their own. Either make sure there's someone else there, or talk the tradesman through every stage of the work , stressing to contact you if there's any questions.
Make sure they have proper dust sheets and indicate what they need to cover.
Secondly , builders will often " diss" other builders work..
Thirdly, don't underestimate how bad a workman they may be.0 -
