Small fruit is good for a beak although I have not worked out why a small apple is more fun than a large one.

Not a bad selection compared to last though

The plums might be worth it, depending on their potential to ripen. Will have to eyeball and decide.

I expect they're aiming it at the packed lunches for children as term starts.

Meals are provided for children in primary schools, and I'm pretty sure that by the time they reach 11 most are capable of eating a whole standard-sized apple / pear without too much difficulty. So I take a slightly less charitable view and wager its to maximise profits.

What should be shrinking for children is the pack sizes for junk food!

Free meals for infants only. Once you get to year 3 it’s pay £400 a year or packed lunches so cheaper smaller fruit is welcome.

That's only true of 'infants' so up to 7 years old at the most and many don't take up the offer.

Of course you're right and they could manage a full apple or pear but they'd rather eat the crisps and chocolate that mum puts in the packed lunch as well and the small piece of fruit is a gesture to healthy eating. Not that I'm cynical.:)
