Not meaning to be rude here, but this has not just "begun" nor is it something that only started last week with the immigration checks on existing account holders.
The term "hostile environment" for immigration is not a term of art, it is a name given by the Government to its own policy, and the Home Office under May and now Rudd has been insensitive, harsh and sometimes downright brutal in its treatment of immigrants, both legal and illegal. This new policy isn't a new thing, it's a continuation of seven years of the Home Office acting like its sole duty is to prevent foreigners from being here.urs sinserly,

So... as a former foreigner, born in another country and naturalised in the UK, and with a British passport, I wonder how long until I get affected.
If the Home Office is making mistakes on this level, then anyone might be affected.Goals

Correct.
Also note that this means that the Government can effectively suspend anyone's banking facilities and therefore access to money without any kind of court sanction, with no oversight, with no indication that a crime has been or will be committed, with no right of direct appeal and with no quick or cheap procedure for seeking restitution should a mistake be made or deliberate action be taken.
People complain about banks blocking accounts for AML checks, but they are responding solely to government regulations and effectively in a damned-if-you-do position, rather than because of some deliberate effort to target people, and they are ultimately accountable to the regulator and to FOS. The Government's power in this case is accountable to basically nobody.
This is what happens when politicians prioritise senselessly cutting immigration over basic decency.urs sinserly,

Perhaps the government is prioritising the 'basic decency' of those who have lived along with their forbears in the country for generations.
You know, those who have contributed via their taxes and spending to the infrastructure of the country: roads, hospitals, railways, town centres and the rest and would like to be actually able to use it having paid for it.
Even those who live in those countries where people emigrate to the UK and even some of them who DO live in the UK think the free flow of people is ridiculous.
If you are motivated etc and living a "cr*p" country rather than seek to improve the country - what do you do - you up sticks and go to a ready made country with all the mods-cons available for you to use having contributed fk all to it.
Meanwhile back 'home' the facilities get worse as everyone who is any good leaves.
Round my way being an upmarket village actually I see a different form of immigration effects. That of premium/high status immigration of people not short of the off bob or two coming in as CEO's and at other executive level. The result - house prices soar as they can outbid those they probably refer to as Scum - the locals.
I've got several round me - that mostly hate the UK and all we stand for and are only here to rip us off and make money for themselves.
Then there is another CEO I know who loves immigration - why? 'cos he can continue to pay sh*t wages - if he had no ready supply of desperates from abroad then he might actually have to raise pay rates to get UK workers - Oh the horror of it!0 -

Is that basic decency somehow helped by treating foreigners poorly or encouraging them to leave the country?
Immigrants pay taxes too, both directly through income tax etc and also through VAT on their purchases. The idea that they don't, or that somehow non-immigrants universally do pay for those things or that their use or enjoyment of them is somehow damaged by immigrants using the things that they also pay for is hilarious. You know, those who have contributed via their taxes and spending to the infrastructure of the country: roads, hospitals, railways, town centres and the rest and would like to be actually able to use it having paid for it.
Except we're explicitly not talking about EU citizens, but people who are in no way subject to the "free flow" - they're people who pay for visas and meet the government's stringent guidelines. I would suggest educating yourself on the actual non-EU visa situation as it exists today because "free flow" is about as far as you can get from it.Even those who live in those countries where people emigrate to the UK and even some of them who DO live in the UK think the free flow of people is ridiculous.
Immigrants contribute immensely to the improvement of this country, as noted, through tax receipts, their contribution to our economy (even by spending money in it alone) and their gainful employment. They in fact cost less overall than non-immigrants because they do not use our educational facilities and tend to not require as much medical care.If you are motivated etc and living a "cr*p" country rather than seek to improve the country - what do you do - you up sticks and go to a ready made country with all the mods-cons available for you to use having contributed fk all to it.
Meanwhile the facilities here get worse because the Government underfunds them, and you blame immigrants...?Meanwhile back 'home' the facilities get worse as everyone who is any good leaves.
One would suggest that if house prices are soaring this is possibly due to the significant lack of house-building in this country as well as the constant fetishisation of the concept of a "housing ladder", cheap credit and the growth of the buy-to-let market being a common investment vehicle, rather than some rich CEOs owning property?Round my way being an upmarket village actually I see a different form of immigration effects. If you think that British-born people also can't seek to rip everyone off then you're a bit blinkered.
What a shame this CEO is not paying minimum wage. You should shop him. Or maybe if he already is, we should raise the minimum wage so that it is liveable, rather than blaming its recipients. No?Then there is another CEO I know who loves immigration - why? 'cos he can continue to pay sh*t wages - if he had no ready supply of desperates from abroad then he might actually have to raise pay rates to get UK workers - Oh the horror of it!
Of course none of your unfocused and mostly factually illiterate rant actually justifies a policy of deliberately making life in the UK unpleasant, expensive and difficult for people who have followed (or intend to follow) the rules, including the British citizen partners of non-EU citizens (of which I am one) or the adoption of swingeing and unchecked powers by Government to intrude into and potentially ruin the lives of anyone either suspected of an immigration offence or put on a database as being suspected of an immigration offence, at the behest of private companies who have no discretion in the matter and have been effectively handed immigration powers that should realistically be reserved to the government or at least subject to basic oversight. I would say instead that your post is a load of ill-informed nativist b*llocks which doesn't stand up to twelve seconds' scrutiny.urs sinserly,

Well said JJ.
I suspect that UXB thought he was on the Daily Mail website - easy mistake to make.0
