Will you be limited to the Amazon App store or do you want the Play store? Or will you be loading the Play store onto it?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Amazon fire are great for kids and you can put playstore on them without too much difficulty0

haven't thought about play store but yes I suppose my son will want to download games and apps. I have a Samsung galaxy with play store with some apps paid for and downloaded....is there anyway of transferring those onto a tablet or are they just for the device downloaded on?0

Amazon tablet
then you download aptoide tv which is the same as google play but without having to register and you don't have to put card details in

Get an Android tablet and download all your apps again with your original google account from the playstore.
Argos is selling the excellent Android Lenovo 10' (2GB RAM 16GB Memory) 10 tablet for around £120
or smaller Lenovos from £70 with less memory

I second the Lenovo shout.
I bought a 7" one for my son last Christmas after looking at the Amazon Fire tablet as well, which would have been a fair bit cheaper when we bought (Black Friday), but I decided it was worth the extra money for Lenovo's better spec. Battery life is a lot better (on paper at least), the Lenovo has GPS where the Fire does not, or didn't at the time... also Play Store as standard. Amazon app store is good as I understand it, but it's lacking at least a couple of well known apps.
Lenovo Tab3 7" was around £60 at the time we bought it. Looking on Amazon, it's now at £75 but IMHO still a good price for what it is.
As for loading already bought apps, you can use the same account to get access to the same apps you already own, or if you're planning on using a different account then there's Google Play Family Library. It'll depend on the app whether it'll work or not, but we've found it pretty good so far.The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

There are some cheaper no-name alternatives, but with the Fire HD 8 you get a brand name, support and experience very difficult to match at £80. If you’re just looking for a cheap tablet to watch a bit of video on, play the odd game and occasionally find the answer to a question, this is the one to buy.
