Mile High Club

At the rate I drive my Picanto it would take 50 years to get to that mileage and I very much doubt I'll be around then, let alone the car.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

There is a club in the USA for Chevy trucks that have done over a million miles. We're amateurs over here.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

I'd keep the VW just to see what it will do! Out of interest is it a 1.9TDI? I've got a Seat Leon with the PD150 and it's only done 125k but I'm keeping it until it gives up on me, hopefully many more years. We also have an Alhambra PD130 on 178k.0

Yep 1.9 TDI PD engine.. Its had 4 timing belt changes, one new clutch and fly wheel. Apart from servicing, the rest is as is... original turbo still!0 -
My VW has just clocked 236,000 miles.
Can anyone beat that?! :rotfl:
I plan to drive it to 250,00 / next June and then retire her.
My Audi coupe was on 273k when the clutch went. I've rebuilt the engine (though it needed hardly anything, most was done because it was silly not to while it was in pieces) and fitted a new clutch, and once I've done a few bodywork repairs it will be back on the road.
From about 160k I kept saying I'd just run it into the ground and get something else when it failed. It just wouldn't die.0 -
I thought it would be, they really are great engines! I think my car's bodywork will die before the engine though as it's now 14 years old but the mileage is low for the engine and I'll continue to look after it.0

I've got a Peugeot 307 diesel that's just clocked 180,000 - it had about 50k on it when I bought it. I've spent nothing on it but routine servicing and consumables. Had the cam belt changed at 100K as per the service booklet.0

That's awesome! Body work still good?
My car is running perfectly so far. There are minor quirks, but that's about it.
The body work is showing some signs of aging though, the front wheel arches are getting a little rusty but I dont want to spend money fixing them as the car is a 2002 model and it doesnt make sense to. Its getting on!
I do look at modern cars like the newer Audi A4's and feel a bit of lust, but this VW I have has done a lot with me, and until it goes horribly wrong it feels rash to part with it.0 -
I have a 2005 Volvo s60 D5 on 203k miles now getting well on its way to needing a new clutch and flywheel which will cost more then the car is worth. With this in mind I went to trade it in last week but after trying the cars I fancied (BMWs, Mercs, Newer Volvos) I have decided to keep my car (and cash). Will probably get it a new clutch after xmas.0
