My letter to B&Q

rom reading the op's letter I can see how someone listening to the op could end up confused.

"I would like 2.5L of Dulux Endurance in this colour please" - What's confusing about that, especially to a person employed as a paint mixer?
Then the paint mixer person didn't know what Dulux endurance was and offered normal matt paint. So I said that wasn't the same as Endurance and he started reading the tins as he didn't know why. (In bold letters the Endurance tin states "10 x tougher than normal paint").

£1 price difference is that I was offered a kitchen & bathroom finish paint in 2.5L for £19.99, ended up getting what I wanted for £20.95 elsewhere.

How does the op know it was £1 at another store if they couldn't find it at B & Q?.

I was actually responding to steven 504's post saying "what do you expect, minimum wage, no incentive for staff to provide real help" etc.....

The OP's post talked about the assistant on the Dulux paint counter "concluding" that B&Q don't sell 2.5L tins - a decision he came to himself because he wouldn't or couldn't be bothered to actually find out for definite. (Incidentally, B&Q DO sell 2.5L tins of this paint).

I class this as being unhelpful but then as I said, maybe I'm just old fashioned. If I worked in a shop, I would go out of my way to try and help a customer because on a personal level, helpful staff in a shop always guarantee that I would visit their store again, but perhaps that's just me:confused:

Frankly I think the OP sounds like a complete and utter !!!! with a middleclass upbringing who seems to think he is far more important than he is

I bet he took the same smart !!! attitude with the staff in the shop and therefore its no wonder they were less than helpful

Being a complete !!!! to the people helping you isnt going to do anything other than damage the service

Reported - you seem to be ironically describing your own attitude issues! The OP sounds like a well spoken, politer-than-normal customer that was interested in the shop improving for its own benefit.

If I ran a shop I would be grateful for this kind of feedback - real and honest.

That's an unfounded and inaccurate thing to say.

I'm not middleclass, in fact I'm very definately working class (perhaps otherwise I'd just get a decorator in!?).

Also I was very polite and patient with the staff. The reason for the letter was the frustration that as others have picked up on having given the staff EVERY chance they still are unable to actually assist the customer. Not once was I rude, impatient or untoward with the staff. I left quietly and politely after they had failed to sell me what I was after (which it turns out they DO sell!!!).

As per your comment " Being a complete !!!! to the people helping you isnt going to do anything other than damage the service". Well I was polite to them and they didn't try to help me, so that really isn't a thought out comment on your part for someone who proclaims themselves "the smartest man alive"...
  • All,

Please ignore "Iamthesmartestmanalive"... You can tell by his username that he has an oversized ego and to top it all off, he has given himself the mission to tell everyone they are big-headed while he is certainly not (oh no! surely not at all).

What is wrong with golddustmedia to vent out a bit about B&Q, and so what if it is not a complaint letter? He vented out in a constructive manner still, he could have just posted it on here and not send it to B&Q. At least B&Q have seen it now.

Yeah, but he didn't find it either so how does he know the price? Also not all stores will sell the same lines, it's impossible.
Last month I got a £600 apology from Burtons menswear over a £300 suit hire bill. I'd say that was a decent complaint letter. The above "vent" to B&Q was never meant to be a formal complaint letter, just a point of view.

Well you opened the thread by asking to look at the letter you wrote to B & Q. If so it was a poor letter due to it's sarcastic tone. You may have got £600 from Burtons to the situation that happend rather than how good your letter was to them.

Iamthesmartestmanalive, if you care to take a look at the right hand side of the Forum main page, you will see a little box entitled Forum Etiquette, first bullet point. It will serve you well to give this a quick once-over.

    He didn't "ask" anything ....
Thought you might like to read what I've sent to B&Q this afternoon!

He just thought we might be interested.

    What!!!!

Oh come on. "thought you might be interested" will get exactly the same response as asking anyway, it's still an invitation to look and comment.
  • If you're not interested, dont read or reply to it.

Personally much of what I read on these forums is because I'm interested to hear about others experiences with retailers and suppliers so I'm better informed and prepared for anything I may encounter.

It's part of human nature to want to hear about others experiences.

Sometimes I wonder why people can't just talk or share stories without people becoming arguamentative, opinionated or assuming there to be some hidden agenda. Sharing my experience at B&Q is of no benefit to me, I just genuinely thought some people may be interested to read it. All the negative replies make me wonder why I bother. Thanks for the postive replies recieved.
