Peole who buy courier delivery items when they work long hours

Oops, people, not peole. Someone with very low feedback ordered an item from me which was listed as Hermes delivery. I got a message recently to say they saw on the tracking that 'the courier that you used' have tried to deliver 3 times, as they work long hours, can it be scheduled for when they are in? :rotfl:. They have given no consideration to the overworked low paid courier continuously trying to deliver. I bit my lip and just replied that is not possible, and it is now likely to be returned to me, they will only try to deliver so many times. Their address is a flat so harder for the courier to find a place to leave it.
Also I have lost what I paid for the courier, but I suppose I now have a late delivery defect as well, to add insult to injury  I have asked them if they want a refund or to pay for redelivery, but by RM, or courier to a work address this time.

Anyway is it worth me contacting ebay to ask for the defect to be removed? & as I dropped the item at a parcelshop how do Hermes do the return? Will it be delivered to my house, & will there be a charge for that?

People don't read details in descriptions properly and sometimes not even the main description. Can you give the buyer details of the depot where it is being held in the hope that they might pick it up?

If not I think you will have to put it down to experience and it will find its way back to you providing you have a return address on the parcel.

I would refund them and block them so you don't have to deal with them again. I wonder why they didn't leave in safe place or with neighbour? Did you pay extra for a signature? If you did then I'd not bother in future. At least it can be left in a safe place and you will be covered by tracking.

Doesn't work like that for Hermes. There is no 'depot' from which people can collect - and your item will only be returned if you pay the cost of (re)delivery to you, otherwise it will simply be destroyed.

No I never pay extra for a signature, I was a bit surprised the courier hadn't found a neighbour to leave it with, it was a flat so not easy to find a safe place. Tracking says returned to sender but I have not got it back! Am trying to contact parcel2go on live chat now about a separate lost parcel, I started at no 41 in the queue, am now down to no 27! I will ask about this one as well.
  • How do I pay them for the return? I haven't been sent an invoice, it would seem fair to have the option.

If you book direct with Hermes, they send you the invoice. I don't know how it works when you use a broker such as Parcel2Go - check with CS if you ever get to the front of the queue!

I always get the items returned for no charge from My Hermes. One time a seller had put an address that made no sense (it had been imported directly from Ebay so I didn't realise). They refused to answer the phone to me or Hermes. They ignored all messages. My Hermes said they'd return it to me but I'd have to pay. I said if they send an invoice would pay but they never did send the invoice. The item was delivered back to me.

    Then you were very lucky....
  • Hermes shouldn't destroy their customer's property, it could be valuable. I used the cheapest option without cover, so they don't have any incentive to return it to me though. Tracking on 18th said 'returned to sender' but I will be surprised if I ever see it again. Parcel2Go chat told me it would be returned to my address although I used a Parcelshop, but I don't have much faith in their advice. I am always reluctant to use Royal Mail due to PO queues, (I do use them for small parcels that I can stuff in the postbox) but at least you get undelivered items back!

As I wrote earlier, I made it clear to the buyer they could have a refund or 'pay for redelivery' she has just replied she still wants the item, 'if the courier resends it will it be free?'
