Delayed and didn't fly

Options
Due to a family bereavement we had to get an immediate flight back to the UK on Easyjet, 2 weeks earlier than the flight that we had already booked and checked-in online (Jet2). That flight (the Jet2 that we had booked) was delayed for 5 hours. Could we still claim compensation for the delay even though we didn't travel on it?

(Normally we would have just moved the flight back to our "emergency" flight but all Jet2 flights out of Cyprus were full at the time that we needed to go, so we ended up losing the cost of the original booked flight)

I'm not sure whether it's morally correct but I don't think the airlines have great moral standards anyway!!
