What is a good BT offer (broadband)?

Poor choice of wording for the title i know but i couldn't think of another way to word it.

Basically i was with BT, the deal ended so i switched to Sky which is coming to the end of 12 months next month at which point i'll be interested in going back to BT.

Looking at their website now, their 'offer' is £34.99 a month down from £49.99 a month for their Unlimited Infinity.

This is still too much for me.

About a couple years or so ago i got a good deal with them for i think it was £10 a month at the time.

So how low do BT go? I'm happy to sit it out & wait. I hear they have offers on all the time so do they regularly go in to the £20 per month bracket for Infinity? Do they go any lower from time to time?

Basically i don't want to wait out for something they don't or no longer offer.

You are unlikely to get it for a £20 headline price, as the price now includes line rental which is nearly £20 in itself.

However, they often run deals where they offer £x pre paid Mastercards (mine was £200 when I got it earlier this year but it's more often around the £100 mark). Combined with TCB/Quidco this brings it down to a much more reasonable price. Taking these off brings my monthly price to around £15 which includes TV.

Be aware that BT's base deals usually have "free weekend calls" to 01, 02 and 03 numbers. This means that weekday calls to these numbers are charged at more than £7 per hour.

If you make any calls outside of the weekend, make sure you get Unlimited Anytime calls. This costs around £8 per month. You'll be saving money on calls after only twenty minutes usage per week.
  • Did it not include line rental a couple years ago?

Come to think of it i seem to remember paying it all up in 1 lump which effectively gave me 1 month free if i remember right?

I would use TCB. I think last time i got £170 for the deal. In the end back then the good deal with the TCB meant i think they actually paid me to use them.

Regards calls - i don't phone & if i do i use my mobile. It's very rare i use the house phone so i usually just get the cheap package for that.

And we would be cancelling our Sky TV subscription also and going with BT TV.

How much are you paying for your mobile? It is unlikely to beat Unlimited Anytime calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers for around £8 per month as offered on a BT landline deal.

You may be able to reduce you mobile tariff to cover only the calls you make while away from home and calls to mobile numbers while you are at home. BT is the only major landline provider to not yet offer inclusive calls to mobile numbers.

It did, but it was listed as a separate price. The attention grabbing price was just the BB, with the 'plus line rental' usually in small print below. New regulations have now meant that ISPs have to clearly show the total price. So the £10 you paid would have been just BB, with the LR paid separately.

Yes, you'll be talking about line rental saver. That's still an option with BT, although not every provider now offers it.

I really make that few a calls that it doesn't really matter.

I can't think of many calls i've made to 01, 02, 03 in the past 2 years let alone 1 year. My mother talks more than i do so if i need a phone for anything like that then i can use her landline and just give her the money for the call.

My mobile bill is about £15 per month. I think i can get it cheaper a bit, maybe with giffgaff or some even smaller company but i'm happy as i am with o2 on the deal i'm on. Especially when other providers don't get as good a coverage at my workplace.

All my calls on my mobile have been free and i think i've only used the house phone to call a takeaway order when my mobile battery had died :rotfl:

So yeah i barely make any phone calls at all basically. You'll be lucky if i make 5 a year on the landline and say 15 a year on landline & mobile combined.

    There are other providers.

    Ee. Plusnet
And the deal of the month Vodafone
  • True.
I've been with plusNet before though & wont go back.
I did warn my mother against them but she went with them because they were cheaper.
Now she's looking to move because cheapest isn't always best.
