Ring your local water company they will be able to put you in touch with approved contractors, they might even do it themselves

ring your water company and ask for an engineer/inspector to visit for blocked drain,uu dont charge who i work for, when he visits, ask him off the record who he would get if his grannys drains blocked,he will probably tell you if he thinks that you are genuine,i do give this advice out if i trust them, but it is a disiplinary offence if found out,

Have you tried ringing the water company like i suggested ? , they should have a list of approved contractors, our water company has an approved plumbers/contractors scheme

Thanks- been a bit busy chasing up other workmen-just rang them(i am with a different area),not very helpful they just said,"look in yellow pages,Dyna-rod and drain doctor are the most used ones".
I wouldnt touch drain doctor with a very long drain-cleaning rod, after i was charged about £100 quid once for a changing a washer (we live and learn).

What sort of inspection are you after?

To use a TV camera to look at the condition is an expensive operation.

Why do you want an inspection?

He wants you to pay for a survey of your drains so that he could use the results as a stick to beat you down on price??

When I have sold property the buyer has paid for any survey. Besides that if you are paying for the survey you can 'influence' the report. If I as a buyer felt an inspection was required I would want an objective report coming to me.

I would have thought that £120+VAT is reasonable, but I doubt you will get a full written report like a surveyor's report for that money, i.e. where the inspection company can be held to account later.

Thanks. I understand what you are saying. Its part of the necociations, and I understand its not usual for the vendor to pay.
