ive had these coming through in the thousands recently, (no i havent been viewing that kinda thing people :p ) Outlook 2007's junk email filters normall sort out the majority, but there are the odd few that do hit me inbox. What i tend to do is set up message rules for particular swear words, different variations of words i.e. such as using $ sign in the word "a$$" etc etc. Seems to work pretty well for me and i just need to check the junk filter everynow and then to make sure that no legitamite emails have been sent there :)

Whatever you do, DO NOT EVER click on an unsubscribe link. Spam is already illegal, so do you think a criminal is going to say "ok then I won't send you any more". Clicking on an unsucribe link simply confirms your email address is real and active so you end up getting much more spam than you did before.

And just as an anecdote for me personally (I get zero spam without any filtering switched on):
I have my own domain and I give different sites I sign up with their own unique address (e.g. amazon@mydomain.co.uk). These are all forwarded to a single address (can be as random as you like @yourdomain.co.uk) that is never given out as an email address. So far I've had a handful of scam emails. All I did was delete the addresses they were sent to (if they're important then I replace them, e.g. amazon2@mydomain.co.uk). Also MOST importantly in looking at which address any spam type email is sent to I know which company gave out my details. You can then complain to that company (it is illegal to give out addresses to spammers without your permission). Last time I did that (it doesn't happen often) the IT manager emailed me himself to thank me because it lead them to finding a virus infected server on their system sending out spam without their knowledge. So it basically helped stop all the spam it was sending out to everyone else as well.

I use gmail as well (I think you can even use a similar method to my domain one by having anything+name@gmail.com all going to name@gmail.com). The spam filters are good although not perfect, a few slip through to the inbox. I tend to use gmail when it's really a one off need to give an email address or I just don't want them having my domain name.

• Fair enough :) I've never felt the need to get my own domain. I've had a few for various projects in the past (i.e my girlfriends photography website) but not sure if I can be bothered setting one up for myself...

Spam is a pain in the backside. As another poster has already said, never ever reply or try to unsubscribe.

There are tools out there which can filter a lot of them out but once you get on a list, its hard to get off.

I generally use 2 e-mail addresses. One for friends and ppl I know, the other for signing up to stuff on the Internet. Helps cut down on the sources of junk mail.

Lastly, just because you are getting !!!!!! spam mail does not mean you or your partner have been to XXX sites. You could have easily typed in your e-mail address into something innocent who then sold your address on. Thought I'd mention that before you kill your OH for surfing !!!!!! sites! :) Think about it. He'd need to be a complete idiot to visit !!!!!! sites and then when asked, type in his GF's e-mail address!!!!
• if he wants to look at !!!!!! let him lol..!!
he will be using my email address so he wont get spam on his lol sneaky boy!

Message to the OP. I constantlky get !!!!!! spam sent into my outlook email, I seldom if ever use the email, preferring my Outlook Express. Most of my spam from competition entries to anythig web based, I use my Yahoo for.

In saying this and to be fair to your partner, I dont view !!!!!! sites or any other "dodgy" kind of site that may result in sending Spam or !!!!!!. Yet I do get constant !!!!!! emails and spam sent to my Outlook Mail. Nobody else has access to this pc, so I could apportion a blame onto them for viewing !!!!!!.

I guess its a fair assumption that you (or your partner), dont need to view such sites in order to get email !!!!!! sent to your box.
