Martins programme last night on ITV

What a great programme! It didn't tell me anything I didn't know or already practice but it is always nice to have your own opinion validated by St Martin of Moneysaving. LOL The problem is, if you are already one or two products lower how can you downshift again short of just walking out with the stuff and not paying:rotfl:Life's a beach! Thanks so much for the link.
It made surprising viewing. Thats exactly what i was thinking when i saw it lol.
I watched it and thought it was really good, yes i did know a lot of it but it was really good to see how much ££ difference there really was. I do have a few branded names i prefer and the kids will eat anything so i think i better change down a few more at the time before they get older and too used to it. Am sure i coudl still save a few more pounds. Did feel very good abou tit all by the end though especially as they were saying that a lot of own brands are just as good and healthy as branded which was always my worry.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

DD&D, thanks for that. It was scheduled for Friday and I was going to watch it then.
On Thursday night on C4, Sarah Beeny is doing a show called Beauty Addicts - How Toxic Are You. I've just read an interview with her and it sounds MO, eg she doesnt use cling film now and covers food with another plate etc xx0 -
I just watched this via the link. Again I buy mostly value or shop own brand, but I was surprised at the percentage differences.
The "test" at the end just goes to show how much packaging and promoting the product plays a part in how people choose a product. Without it most people just can't tell the difference.

In my experience.... she refused to try a different shampoo because she doesnt have to buy the more expensive option.
It is sooooo easy to spend someone elses money.
The girls parents should only buy the cheaper alternative that they find does the same job... and if she wishes to purchase the more expensive brand named brand, from her pocket money, then thats up to her.
Harsh, I know... but I have to admit this sort of treatment from my parents when I was a teenager, made me into the bargain hunter that I am today:T
What I would do, is empty the value shampoo contents into the branded bottle, and see if she notices the difference, after all - it is only packaging. The cheaper shampoo's work just a good as the leading one's!
Sorry - it was allready mentioned! Serves me right for posting before finishing reading the thread :rotfl:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
I thought the programme was too short for the issues they needed to discuss. Like instead of substituting brand name pasta sauce for own brand why not see how much you can save by making it from scratch.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0

Someone pointed this out earlier, it would be great to see a follow up programme with the branded/value "v"'s home cook!
People just dont realise by reading the ingredients on jars, how easy it is to prepare yourself. It's only through this site, Ive learnt big style!
Im forever throwing OS ways at the girls at work, they think Im mad! But can see my reason!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Hi,
I think that's such a good policy Pen and others. When I was 12 my Mum and Dad turned my child benefit over to me, and I had to clothe, shoe and toiletry(!) myself and all fun things from this one pot. School trips and school uniform included.;)
I can't describe how good a tactic this was for building me into a responsible budgeter.
I haven't got kids, but I admire any parent who would show tough love to their kid in this way.:A

We did this to our youngest son. He managed very well. He's at Uni now and an excellent budgetting Uni boy :T .0 -

I did this with my children when they became 14 and it worked a treat with my 2 boys. I did continue to buy school uniform though as in those days it was very expensive from specialist shops. They are still good with money and never in debt. My daughter never did get it right and I, because money was a lot easier by then as I was back at work, bailed her out every time. She is still hopeless and I am still bailing her out so it certainly proves a point.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0
