Can I claim for Emirates flight delay?

Hi. We have just flown back from the Maldives to Manchester with Emirates. Our first leg of the flight from the Maldives to Dubai was delayed by almost an hour. We only had an hour in total for the connection from Dubai to Manchester. We landed with approx 25 minutes to spare. I brought this to the attention of a flight attendant who reassured me that the flight would not go without us as Emirates would not want to pay for us to stay in a hotel. Due disembarking the plane and then to the size of Dubai airport we managed get to the gate with ten minutes to spare before the flight left. We were told by the staff at the gate that we were too late and that we had been booked onto a later flight (some 4 and a half hours later!!) We were told to go to the Emirates desk - which we had no idea where it was and they were not helpful in taking us there. We eventually found the desk only to be told that the only thing Emirates were prepared to do was to give us a meal voucher. In fact the emirates assistant was particularly dismissive and unsympathetic. She also didn't point out that the departure gate was in another area and another train ride away!! The meal voucher turned out to be a choice of only four fast food outlets and totalled the cost of a sandwich and a drink. this next flight was due to depart at 7.25 am but didn't leave until 7.45. We eventually arrived at Manchester totally exhauseted approximately 5 hours later that scheduled. I am really not happy with our treatment by Emirates and want to know if there is any compensation I can claim. I have been in touch with one company who only deals with european flights. To be honest if the Emirates rep at Dubai had been a little sympathetic, offered us the business lounge for our wait or an upgrade I would just accepted that. But because of the attitude we were faced with together with the cheapest mcdonalds meal, I am NOT happy. thank you

You can check if your travel insurance has a delay payment but often these don't kick in till 12 hour delay

Thankful I wasn't on the Titanic with fifeken
Gee, that's very big of you. Your expectations about what happens when you misconnect are entirely out of proportion with reality. A rebooking onto the next available flight and possibly a refreshment voucher is what you'll get in pretty much every case. If you need to stay overnight you will usually (but not always) be offered hotel accommodation as well. People misconnect at major airports all the time, expecially the ones who book very short connection times such as yourself. If everyone were upgraded because of it, business class cabins would be nothing but misconnecting passengers.
Thank you to both you and fifeken commenting on my deluded expectations as a mere pleb. I am not a frequent traveller making multi international flights, I am a mother who had saved and taken her children on a holiday of a lifetime and, clearly wrongly, expected better treatment from a reputable airline.
In any event the purpose of my post was not to invite such remarks but to ask whether I was entitled to any compensation to which I received a clear answer from caz
You would be p***ed off, and rightly so, and that's how many Emirates Lounge guests would feel.
When you post on an open forum you may expect answers offering different views and perspectives, maybe even more so once the initial question has been answered. If it's in your makeup to get offended then maybe posting on forums is not a good choice for you.
Grow up.
