Check out eurocarparts on ebay OP - I bought a Bosch battery from them three years ago, delivered next day, at considerably less than anywhere else. http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/eurocarparts0

How do they ship an acid filled battery?
In a vacuum bag, with any and all breather holes blocked up. As long as it doesn't end up upside down for several hours it'll be fine, but its a good idea to let it stand for a few hours before use just in case.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

No - too much potential for the item to be fake, and/or made in China.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0

Most of the car batteries I have ever bought come from eBay. It is much cheaper than any local shop (including postage) and i can also get the exact battery I want.0

Just watch the measurements for the battery tray.0 -
Bought lots on ebay , regarding how do they ship batteries ? Probably same way to you that they get them to the distributors !.
I always use the saving to trade up to a quality Bosch item, normally arrive next day, old one too the dump.0 -
I buy them from CarParts4Less.0

I buy online with no issues with the ones I've bought.
However I always like to know from the seller that what I'm buying is less than 12 months since manufacturing date. I wouldn't buy anything older as you don't know if the charge has been correctly topped up while stored.
I like bosch/varta - but unless the seller declares the age you need to email varta customer services with the code frm the battery for the to tell you the manufacture date. It's not possible to decode yourself AFAIK.
Also note Varta normally sell (online) cheaper than Bosch - but they are the same battery made in the same factory.0
