BT Fibre broadband and tp-link (TL-WA850RE) extender

Hello,

I just switched from SKY Fibre to BT-Fibre broadband. MY TP-Link extender worked fine with SKY, enabling wider wifi coverage. However, I am unable to get the TP-Link extender to work with BT Home Hub.

Has anyone else had this issue and did you manage to resolve? If so, would you mind sharing your fix?

I had some initial difficulty in getting TP-Link extenders/APs working. I found the easiest way was to use the Android/iPhone app.

(I only used the app to perform the initial set-up, and then deleted it.)

Otherwise, disconnect a PC from your network and plug in the extender via Ethernet cable. You should then be able to connect via the extender's web interface.

If not, you could try pressing the reset button on the extender.

If that still fails, try setting a static IP address on the PC. Try 192.168.0.50 first, then 192.168.1.50 (both with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and any gateway IP).

I found I needed to power off the PC and extender after doing this, then power up the PC, wait for it to boot, leave it about 2 minutes, then power on the extender.

You should then be able to log in to the extender's settings and enter your new wireless SSID and password, make sure it's on the same subnet (i.e. all addresses begin with either 192.168.0.... or 192.168.1...), then off you go. Move the extender into position and reconnect your PC.
