NPower Bill

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice.

I have just received a bill from NPower for electricity, for a rental property I used to live at and moved out on in May 2016.

The bill is for £3,044.01. The letter is dated 30 August 2017 and, although received today (08 September 2017), states that payment is due by 13 September 2017.

The bill says:

"Your amended final electricity bill - 2 May 2016 to 3 May 2016"

I'm aware there is an amount due to NPower. From memory, I owe them about a year's worth of electric usage. However I can't be sure.

This bill is very unclear and the only breakdown on it, is as follows -

Amount left to pay from your previous bill £3,200.67
Total cost of energy used £213.03
Cancelled bill on 18 November 2016 to be taken off
amount left to pay £240.54
Cancelled bill on 18 November 2016 to be taken off
amount left to pay £138.93
Cancelled bill on 2 December 2016 to be taken off
amount left to pay £92.22
Collection charge to be added to amount left to pay £10.50
Agent visit charge to be added to amount left to pay £23.50
Collection charge to be added to amount left to pay £10.50
Agent visit charge to be added to amount left to pay £23.50
Collection charge to be added to amount left to pay £10.50
Agent visit charge to be added to amount left to pay £23.50
Total to reach us by 13 September
2017
£3,044.01

The amount seems very expensive. I'm not sure what to do; am I within my rights to ask them for a clear breakdown? It seems that £3,044.01 has just been plucked out of thin air.

You are certainly entitled to a clear breakdown of exactly how your bill has been arrived at.

But you may need to refer to historic bills for much of that information

You see, this bill starts off with a demand from a previous bill of £3,200.67

It also adds cost of fuel used of £213.03 (for which you should have details, including meter readings used, unit prices, etc )

Then it deducts the amounts of £240.54, £138.93 & £92.22 from previous bills
(perhaps the new additional charge of £213.03 replaces the historic charges for this energy previously billed?)

Then you have all those debt recovery fees added !

Which means you now only owe £3,044.01
  • Yes you’re entitled to a full explanation into why it has come to what it has. Get in contact with them and ask for the Change of Tenancy bill, which would be the last original bill from that address and check the readings & the date tenancy ended if they are correct and actualised fair enough you owe it, if not and they are estimated then get them to re bill it/ Ahmend end date. Proof will be required (tenancy agreement, or something to prove you no longer occupy the property.) Although depending on the balance the collection charges would still stand.

Regarding not showing any information of where the 3k has come from is due to them only ahmending a partial amount of the bill & classed as a new bill hence why it says amount from last bill.

Get in contact with nPower and ask for the COT end bill and what readings they have used and take it from there.

    Hope this helps :)

    Dear Alan

I emailed the email address on your profile. I received a reply stating that they could not provide me with a breakdown of the bill and that I needed to call 0800 073 3000. I have tried to call this number on two occasions today but on both occasions, the automated message states there is a waiting time of "more than 40 minutes".

I really need to get to the bottom of this and to date I have not received a clear breakdown of the bill. Can you please assist me?
