  • OK, so I'm ready for #frugal february!
I have a friend visiting on the 10th/11th, but she totally understands the money saving thing, so I'm allowing myself a small social spend that weekend.
It's also my brother's birthday at the end of the month, and parents are paying for us to fly to Berlin, so there will be some extra food expenses at the end of the month, but if I'm good for the rest of the month I will have earned it I feel!

  • I'm about a month behind with the "new beginnings" stuff, but now here I am, ready and budgeted for #frugal february!
Things I need to do this month:
    - sell the old car now I get provided with one from work
    - sort out the spare room into a more relaxing space (there's a single bed with drawers underneath to sell, so that should help a little)
    - have a proper sort out of clothes
    - rent out a rugdoctor carpet shampooer thing (one of the cats has used the back room as a toilet and I can't get rid of the smell, hoping this will help!)
    - check spending every day (though I'm much better than I was, and do it most days I don't do every day)

  • Really need to knuckle down with it. January was a loooong month after an early pre-christmas payday, and with Kitty's 18th as well. I'm a little off track, but hoping frugalfeb will start things going in the right direction.

  • #Frugalfeb day 5!
Food theme this week: pasta with various sauces. Ratatouille type stuff. And probably a beef stew.
Cats sorted for wet food for the month - Felix big boxes on offer woop! I just need to get some "old lady cat" dry food and they're done.
Went to collect old car from friends house, and battery has died, so need to pop round with work car and jump leads and try and get it going so I can sell it! Hoping it doesn't need new battery, needs to sell this month as I don't want to have to MOT it.
Keeping going with spending log by making nice pretty colour coded page in my journal :)

  • I don't know if it's useful but I've just received a Jamie Oliver recipe book for 5 ingredient meals. It's got some really tasty simple ideas that don't require a lot of effort or lots of fancy ingredients and there's a wide range of choice. You might be able to see a copy online or borrow it from a library. There's a great cheap recipe for a sausage bake (sort of a casserole) that we made a large batch of and it kept well for 3 days.

I've stolen your idea for ratatouille and will be making that for my other half this evening with some grilled pork chops that were on offer :)

Keep going, you're doing great :)

  • Ooh I'll have a look for that Jamie Oliver book Nellie! Sounds like it might have some useful recipes!
Trying a new tactic this week, I told Kitty what the food budget was and got her to plan meals and what we needed to make it all. She's done well, £6 under budget :) good practice for her for when she leaves home!

  • That's a brilliant idea to get Kitty to do that - as you say it's excellent practise for when she leaves home.

I just had a google for the Jamie Oliver recipes - there's a handful of them online by the look of it. I seem to recall that Huge Furry Wotsit might have done something similar as well. (Yes, just googled that too and his was "3 good things" albeit that was more about making certain items the start of the show so there were other supporting ingredients in there too.

Did the car get sorted OK?
