Wickes Kitchen Unit not as pictured in Catalogue

Hi,

We've recently bought a kicthen from Wickes. We're paying on finance, had the designer come to the house and do a full design, and we are fitting it ourselves.

We've just come to build some dresser units. High level, Glass fronted and while all the doors are fine the cabinet is oak veneer rather than spray painted cream. The catalogue and all website pictures show it as cream. The design pictures look to us like Cream but in shadow (with the surfaces being inside a cabinet).

The company are now telling us that all cabinets of this type are oak veneer irrespective of the door colour and are arguing that the design drawings show them as wood. Our designer/sales person is currently on holiday so we're dealing with a new (and seemingly less exeperienced) designer. He even told my husband that he wondered if they had photoshopped the catalogue before printing.

The current situation is they will 'get back to us'.

On the back of the catalogue it states "Wickes take every care to ensure that the product design, descriptions, specifications and techniques of constructing our products are accurate at the date of printing. We constantly strive to improve our products and this may result from time to time in changes to our ranges. Please check that the design, descriptions, specification and techniques of construction decribed in this brochure are still valid at the time of purchase. Colours in this brochure are as accurate as the print process will allow"

Given we sat with the designer, pointed to the picture and said "we want that", what rights do we have? Does the caveat on the catalogue absolve them of all responsibility?

We want to fight hard on this as we have spent a lot of money on the kitchen and these units look like they were £20 from Argos.

Im guessing with what im saying but here goes.

We used to sell clad on panels. Because the carcass you would by normally was a basic carcass and you had pretty doors you would want the end of the carcass to match the doors. Thus you ordered a clad on end panel in the corresponding colour. I would guess your designer simply forgot to add tha ton to the order.

Alternatively you can get replacement sides so not clad on that work as replacements for both sides of the cupboard. Again this is usually an additional item that needs to be paid for.


eg say you buy a black kitchen. Most if not all units are finished white or wood effect. To have matching black end panels you would have to order them.



Edit ive just realised you might be talking about the interior and not exterior.

Are any cabinets spray painted?

assuming you mean the interior, i thought they are all veneer chipboard or MDF mostly white or oak colour

They are and without a picture we can't tell. I have been through all the images of Wickes kitchens and none I can find show the colour of the carcasses.

Thanks for responding Guys.

Unfortunately I'm too new a user to post links. On the Wickes website, I'm talking about the Tiverton Bone range. The main picture, you will see the glass fronted cabinets on the left hand side. Interior clearly cream not wood.

We have and paid for the matching cladding for the outside and yes, I am talking about the interior.

The cabinets (carcass) are all veneered MDF or similar.

I'd agree that the interiors do look like they are painted, but there isn't a lot to see on the website pictures, so perhaps the catalogue has more examples. Having said that, if you click on Slate the interior of the glass cabinet there also looks like it could be oak.

They do look cream, but could it be the lighting? If you look at the sage and slate version they definitely look wood coloured.

Yes, pictures for Slate and Sage both show wood inside these cabinets. The Catalogue shows the same pic as the website. Clearly cream and not oak to me.

The company have agreed to send us some carcasses from a different range where the veneer is white rather than oak so I guess that is an improvement.

Yes we looked instore as well but they don't have those specific cabinets in our colour on display. I think the display shows the oak version of the range, where I would expect the interiors of the cupboards to also be oak
