Programs not working

Options
Every since recently downloading a dodgey microsoft update my OH's laptop is slowly shutting down.
First the printer stopped working then word and excel stopped now vidoeos and iplayer won't work.
She can not also download things from kindle.
We have done several virus scans and no threats.
Any ideas what to do anyone?

What was the 'dodgy Microsoft update' exactly, was this a genuine update or something questionable that's accidentally been downloaded? When you say the printer stopped working and Word/Excel 'stopped', what exactly is happening?

What are you using to do virus scans?

It's difficult to say without any specific information, at a guess I'd have a look at the hard drive if the machine is fitted with one as they can cause odd errors as they fail but would need more information.

This was a auto update from microsoft. microsoft often send our updates with problems sometimes they later send an updated update that corrects it.

What are you using to do virus scans? AVG

We have tried to roll back - system restore but that won't work either

If all else fails you can do a reset and still keep all your data but you'll have to reinstall programs.

If when you say virus scans you mean simply that you are scanning with your AV programme, then you should probably be doing a lot more to check for malware and other nasties that AV won't look for. At the very least a scan with Malwarebytes should be done, download the free version from here.

    https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

I expect those who know more about this stuff will recommend additional actions.

^^ this - you are probly swimming in malware

use malware bytes and ADW cleaner https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

Ditch AVG, its crap - and may even be part of the problem if it has borked

    Bitdefender ..

Note : AV's do not scan for most malware/pups .. which are far more prevelent these days.

Use in tandem with malwarebytes and ADW
