I use Comma oils. Never heard a bad word about them. I think of them as Castrol without the marketing budget. Halfords buy Comma oil and always have a new year sale. £12 for 4 litres. Fully synthetic. I stock up. £11.62 with Topcashback. Please inform me of what you include in your "major" service for £50.
I use Mann filters. High quality from euro car parts.
Oil filter £7.59
Cabin Filter £17.99
Air Filter £15.99
NGK spark plugs £11.96
Always use the discount code from their website. Currently SAVE30. 30% off. Total for filters & spark plugs = £37.47. £36.09 with Topcashback.
Total = £11.62 + £36.09 = £47.71 If you want to change the brake fluid Comma DOT4 is £3.50 at Wilko. £51.21 in total.

What amazes me is the gap between DIY and dealer servicing. With DIY you know that everything is done properly and you'd never spend more than £50ish even on the most major service. With dealer servicing they do whatever they feel like doing on the day - and then charge astronomical prices. When you see £340 you think "yes that's with a cambelt and then you realise it probably isn't". So all that money is going on labour. So a mobile mechanic could do 2 services a day. £600 a day. £3K a week. £150K a year.
It's not really all going on labour though is it? If you go to a main dealer for servicing, obviously you've got main dealer parts prices rather than spurious ones from ECP, then you've got the labour, cost of the swanky plate glass dealership, kitting out the service dept, tools, computers, the nice waiting area with free coffee and biscuits, the dolly on reception etc etc. A mobile mechanic obviously doesn't have any of those overheads and obviously isn't going to charge the same £340 for a service.0 -

I wouldn't buy a car from you either.
I'll have to sell it to someone else then.0 -
It's not in the servicing schedule and Eurocarparts don't sell a fuel filter for that car.
What car are you talking about exactly?. It's seems you wouldn't be able to service your 2004 VW for £50....My car takes VW505.01 oil. I pay about £25 for 5 litres and change it every 8000 miles. A friend who works in a motor factors brought me some VW507.00 oil for £40 and said it would last ages. A bit of googling later he took it back and I used my usual oil. More frequent oil changes with the cheaper (but still to spec) oil for me.Just looking for some new parking sensors for my 2004 VW. There are loads of unbranded ones on ebay. Very few genuine. Has anyone had experience of the unbranded ones? Are they OK? Thanks0 -
Unfortunately there is no oil to VW505.01 spec in the Halfords new year sales. The prices I have quoted are for our smaller runaround car.0
