I don't think telling you that he had taken the other job by text without mentioning anything about the impact on seeing you was very caring at all.
So you've only been on 4 dates and you are young, but still, if you clicked, there was an unsaid assumption that you would continue dating, so he should have brought it up, either by saying 'I'm really sorry, would have loved to continue dating, but couldn't cope with the job situation here and needed to go, don't think it will work long distance, pity, but wish you the best, let's meet for a last drink', or he could have said 'I'm gutted to be moving back as things were going well between us, but had to move, however, would you consider a long term relationship as I would love to still see you, and we can see where it takes us'.
Maybe that's what he intends to say on that date, so my advice would be to let him take the lead and respond accordingly rather than taking the step yourself.0 -
