O/S Daily Monday 4 September 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light but dull, dreich and dreary, wet underfoot after overnight rain.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, he'll be getting up and going in to college - last week at enrolment day they were told to go to college today, on the college website it says they start back next week - he's decided to go today and as he is under the impression that going in today was to find out their timetable etc and then they start back properly next week.

Lunch yesterday was bbq at mum and dad's, with the family, it was DH's birthday, it's our wedding anniversary (a milestone one, god knows how I've managed to stick with it!) tomorrow and mum's birthday on the 6th, so we have LO's in the fridge, mostly salad type stuff, I was pretty much spot on with the meat - there was 1 burger and 2 small pieces of chicken left that had been cooked, and then some chinese flavoured pork steaks and 6 sausages that didn't get cooked - they will be tonights' dinner with jacket potatoes and LO salad, I will have to make some coleslaw as that all got eaten, but I have everything in the fridge to make it so it's not an issue.

Back to work today - I'm expecting it to be a busy one, although a lot of the school's here go back tomorrow, Weds and some on Thurs - but this weekend is the beginning of the month - we'll see.

Keep safe and well x

Thanks nmlc, your BBQ sounds good. Happy Anniversary.

I had every intention of going swimming today but set the alarm for the wrong time so was too late! Still, the DW has been on and I'll have extra time in the shower. May go to the gym later to make up for it.

Made my chutneys yesterday and then lazed about, it was actually quite nice to watch some rubbish TV and catch up with people by phone.

How was the afternoon tea Speky?

Monday again and the sky looks threatening, not cold though so that's a bonus.

Have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

The weather report tells me that it is foggy but my eyes tell me that it isn't. It does feel damp and cool though.

I'm going to work late as I'll be working late today, and tomorrow probably.

Washing is just finishing in the machine and it will have to go on the rack, not a good drying day.

Last night's dinner was roast chicken, roasties, mashed swede and carrots, his pi cabbage, gravy and bread sauce. Today OH will cook for himself and DS and I will have something when I come in.

Hope everyone has a a good day and Happy Anniversary nmlc

    Morning all,
Thanks for the read nmlc and happy anniversary xx
I went to a spa for the day with three girlfriends on Saturday. Very indulgent but such a lovely treat. Yesterday was back to reality as we were gloss painting DDs bedroom! Will be doing the first coat of emulsion tonight and I also have to take up DS2's school trousers ready for tomorrow (he is in an age 16 trouser which is too long as he's only 13).
Taking lunch in today - salad leaves and small snap packs of Philadelphia. I have ryvita in my desk drawer plus some fruit, will save me going out at lunchtime.
Judi - that's why I detest fbook - someone always has to comment on your comments - your wall, your prerogative I say x
Hope you all have a lovely day x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's a dull, dreary, dark and depressing start to the day here. I hate mornings like this as I can never get myself motivated to do anything. Though it is forecast to brighten up later they say!

So it's a good job I have no fixed plans! Could do with flicking the duster about and running the vac around I suppose if I CBA. No ironing to do as I summoned up the enthusiasm to tackle that yesterday afternoon!

The son of our next door neighbour popped round to tell us he has sorted out a care home for his 87 yo dad. All he wanted to do was come home but that was never going to happen. So sad as before illness and old age struck he was never still. Poor old soul. We don't know how we are going to end up do we, which is perhaps as well!

I think we shall have jacket spuds and salad tonight - prawns in 1000 Island for Mr TA and tuna mayo for me. It seems ages since we had them. Lunch will be hm soup and a bagel. Stocks of soup in the freezer are running low so must have a soup-making session soon.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. I hope KARCHER is ok we don't seem to have heard from her for a while. Take care all xx ps! Happy Anniversary for the NMLC's tomnorrow!

  • Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc and Happy Anniversary for tomorrow.

Had a productive day yesterday making chutney, and freezing garden produce.

Woke at 5am and it was dark and quite chilly, seems summer is nearly over. It's raining so not sure what I'll be doing today.

Hope you all have a good day

    Morning all,

Damp and cold here this morning not actually raining yet but I think its on the way. Back to work for me which is going to be a struggle after two weeks off, still it should be quieter as the kids are back at school today / tomorrow.

Yesterday after posting I started to feel unwell and spent most of the day running to the loo I was sick too it was horrible, I spent most of the day on the sofa, by evening I started to feel slightly better and managed to keep some boiled eggs and toast down, I was in bed by 9 and slept all night and feel much better this morning.

Hopefully the chuckle brothers will be back this morning to put the sub base on the driveway ready for the tarmac tomorrow.

The pork chops from yesterday will be for dinner tonight with some spuds and veg.

DD has to pack tonight as she is off to Croatia early in the morning with her best friend.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Morning everyone.

It's dark and dreary here too, and damp. The clouds are grey and low with rain forecast for the whole day. I'm off down to Clydebank and back today so have got my book ready. Camelot told me that there's a costa in the hospital so I shall find a comfy seat to wait for the patient.

That'll be my whole day I think. Apart from the weather all is well here. My cleaner is coming today and my lovely carpenter will be calling to fix my bedroom window shelf which is causing a bad draught. Hopefully I'll come home to find the place clean, sparkling and one less draught to annoy me. Swallows still here.

    Happy Monday to all.

Dull & drizzly here.I'm not usually one of the early posters here but DS1 has to go to Wales today and was up at 5.30.Heard him but was just drifting off again when there was a series of soft bumps on our window- he'd been putting some stuff in the car and locked himself out.Not sure what he was chucking at the window :D

We went to our friends yesterday afternoon to take them some of the donated apples and deliver a card. They have been painting the alcove cupboards DH made for them & they look great. She is over the moon as she has wanted some for years.DH and DS2 have a bit of work this week, someone DH used to work with, should help the coffers.

Happy Anniversay nmlc,BBQsounde good.DH tried to barbecue our tea on Saturday, some kebabs he'd got from the butchers.Started them off ok then after a bit realised the gas bottle had run out so we hastily transferred them to the oven .
Right better go and have a shower, have a good day all xx

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for starting us off nmlc

The weather yesterday turned out better than the forecast and I managed to get the washing dry, so at least that is all up to date.

I want to try and go through my clothes today and put away most of the summer things and get the winter ones out and sorted ready to wear. I have already got a few things out.

Term starts today in this area although a few schools go back on Tuesday or Wednesday, it will be nice and quiet in the town so I may have a wander around the shops today. I need to get a little gift for my neighbour will be 94 on Saturday. I always find it hard to find something for her, although I do know that she is partial to shortbread so may see if I can find a nice tin in M&S for her.

I need to go through the fridge in a minute and see what veg is in there needing using up and then plan what to have from dinner around that.

    Time for tea and breakfast.

Have a good Monday everyone whatever you are doing.
