if it was only points and 100 quid, then yes it would have made me more careful but as the previous post said, that creeping sense of ...I can get away with it again...has hit a brick wall as they are taking a week's wages off me to make sure I sit up and take notice...I will just have to take the hit......
how long will the points stay on my license and will this affect my insurance renewal next year ?0 -
a previous post stated;
The case would have been at the court close to where the offence took place, where you live is irrelevant
the offence took place in Uxbridge, NW London but the court in Bromley issued the fine ?0 -

Only later on did i find out about the change in law a few months ago & realise i'm in a band B where i will be charged 100% of my weekly wage.
This Pd me off. My initial reaction was that's too much but then as i stopped to think about it i realised this was the proper reaction. When i initially thought 3 points & £100 i thought i can stand that - therefore it wasn't hard hitting enough.
Facing 4-6 points & a weeks wage and i'm raging, which has made me be more cautious out on the road since. This is the sort of reaction punishments should bring so as much as i don't like it the punishment i'm facing has brought about the correct reaction whereas if it'd only been 3 points & £100 i would've probably still been a bit heavy footed.
If you make any punishment hard enough then people will think twice about doing the crime. This is how it should be.
EDIT: On a side note i'm not sure what a weekly wage is for me. I don't do a 9-5 office job. My wage varies from week to week and often not by a small amount either. Is it a week where i work a Saturday or not? A week where i do a ton of overtime (say 65 hours) or a week where i'm only doing 47.5 hours (the least we can do without sick days & early leave). A week where i've taken sick days? A week where i've had 1 or 2 early finishes? An average over a set timeframe, say 12 weeks which may be a lot more than the 12 weeks prior to that?
What is a week?
AFAIK, if you don't declare an income they assume £440/week, so you need to decide if you're better off not declaring.0 -

They are valid for totting up purposes for three years but stay on for four.
Six points will probably see an increase in your premium.
It's good to see a criminal paying the price.0 -

And if they just go off your previous P60 to calculate a week then fair enough.
Out of interest what would they do with someone who didn't work? Someone who was on benefits? Someone who had recently lost their job but wasn't claiming benefits? They'd just charge a £440 fee anyway? Nothing more than just wondering that's all.
I hope i get offered a speed awareness course so i don't get hit with the fine. The points don't bother me as much as the fine does but at 42 in a 30 i don't think i'll get that option. I've read of other cases online where others claim to have been given the option at that speed in that limit but whether these people online are being honest or not is another matter.0 -
I had just bought my insurance for the coming year the day before they issued the fine....ok well I got 12 months to decide on the future of my motoring career...0

But you told them about your impending prosecution when you took out the policy and subsequent conviction the day after the policy started.0 -

42 is the upper limit for a course.0 -
You have to tell the insurance company once the points on your licence. If you dont and have an accident they may well void your insurance and not pay out0

At 42 in a 30 limit you will be offered a speed awareness course (if you qualify) or a fixed penalty (£100 and 3 points).
You won't go near a court unless you turn down those offers.0
