Virgin Mobile Sim Only Credit Check!

I have just tried to sign up for a 12-month Sim only deal worth £12 a month, and they did a hard credit check on my application - With a poor credit history, I failed.

I have never heard of a hard credit check on a Sim only deal before. It seems a bit harsh when there is no valuable phone involved or lengthy contract.

Are Virgin unique with this policy? Do the other's like BT Mobile do checks also?

I've seen acc's where they've run up over a grand in costs in 24 hours, so yes, there has to be a credit check. The cost of the phone isn't a factor.

Indeed, a mobile contract should be viewed as a liability and therefore not entrusted to children etc.

I would have been totally surprised if they hadn't done a credit check, that would have been reckless.

Op if your credit is shot go with Giffgaff.
  • Which mobile providers do a soft credit check?

I have been with Three sim only for years and need to change due to signal issues.

    Thanks.
  • Which is why they probably didn't do a credit search. All networks would for new customers, sim only or not. They are giving you a blank cheque book without limit so why wouldn't they???
