Hello,
I currently only have freeview and do not have any subscription TV service. I am also a fan of F1, and sadly since the glory days of the BBC broadcasting every race I have had to go to friend's or the pub to watch the races not broadcast on BBC/C4.
So I've got to the point where I would like to have the Sky F1 channel (in HD) in my own living room. However in order to get the F1 channel in HD Sky claim I need to have the "box sets bundle" (their most expensive base package) then pay extra for the F1 channel and pay extra on top for HD, in total even with haggling on the phone the best they can offer me is £45/mo for 18 months.
So thats £540/yr for 20 races or £27 per race!!!:mad:
For someone who dosent care for watching any other sports or sky channels (I dont even like GOT), is there any affordable ways to get the channel I want in HD?

NowTV from Sky and you can have all Sports Channels for the day for £6.99, or the week for £10.99. NowTV on my 4K set is absolutely fine even if they say it's limited to 720p.

Actually, given that C4 show 10 of those races live, arguably it's £540 for 10 races, or £54 each0

to watch the races not broadcast on BBC/C4.
as noted above, they're all broadcast on C4. Roughly half is highlights, half live.
Sky make a significant amount of money with 'packs' making it more expensive for you to get one channel. I'm fortunate to have the channel as part of the old HD pack, and it would cost a bomb for me to keep it with the current packages. You can certainly save some money by not having the pack in the off-season...0 -
As poppasmurf says, Now TV is your cheapest option - you need a decent BB connection as it is all streamed. If you watch qualy highlights on C4 and just the race on Now TV (Sky F1), you would just need a day pass for the days that the live race is only on Sky. That would be for about 11 races so an annual cost of about £77. The day passes last for 24 hours from the time of activation so you could activate in the morning and watch any sports output on that day as well as the race. You'd need a device with the app built in e.g. smart TV's or games consoles or smart player. Some PVR's have them too. Alternative is a Now TV box - if you look out for any deals on the boxes, some of them come with free passes, so your annual cost would be less. The output isn't HD but I find it fine on my TV (mostly movies).0
