Quickest Way to get an iPhone Unlocked

A couple of years ago my husband bought an iPhone 6 from a friends as it was an unwanted upgrade. I'm pretty sure it was a vodapgone handset but my husband but a Virgin SIM in it which it accepted as VM piggyback on Voda's network.

Fast forward to this week and he ordered a three sim and requested his PAC from virgin and the number has now been applied to the three sim, which won't work in the phone as he totally forgot the phone was locked 😩

I've looked on eBay and all the unlock codes for sale either say the phone had to be used on a Vodafone contract for 3 months (it's been used with a VM 30 day sim, since new), OR it can take up to a month to unlock.

Is there anything else we can do here to get a quick unlock?

Virgin is an EE MVNO, not Vodafone.

Only the locking network - as it is Apple and iTunes that control the unlocking.

Not quite true, there are others with access to the Apple database (I suspect via Apple service centres), that's how there are unlockers operating on eBay that can do official unlocks (albeit, unofficially).

Also, iTunes hasn't been used for the unlocking process since around iOS 7.
