extension ladders for guttering

When cleaning guttering, don't be tempted to lean to one side and over-reach yourself to avoid having to move the ladders.

The ladders may twist or topple sideways if you do.

I'm a nervous ladder user, I prefer the variety with a wide bar at the bottom to add stability, and also a stand-off frame at the top. Having someone at the bottom to make sure the feet don't move is re-assuring.


If budget allows, renting a small commercial-quality scaffolding tower is worth considering.

It's a shame our house has an open passageway down the side of it (no roof, side of house on one side, next door tall wall on the other - next doors house is higher up than ours) as it's a little too open to put a ladder.

Might have a look at a fence and gate to section that bit off though, as I'd feel better storing them there out of the public view. No where else for them to go.

We were looking at a website who come round and do them using some sucker vac thing with no ladder for £50(gets rid of leaves and the dirt) but we will still need a ladder to get these light fixed now its pitch black at 5am and late at night

At the height you want that will just be an extension ladder.

No, at the height you are going to be working at, you won't be able to use the extra fancy features of that ladder. You might as well buy or hire an ordinary extension ladder.

Use the money to pay someone else who is used to working at height.

Going up even a good ladder to height, with your best buddy footing it can be a scary. Going up and cleaning gutters with one hand, without a stand-off, and no practice at a lower level will NOT be pleasant, and perhaps not safe.
