how to get tenant to leave

Not sure why you consider my post ignorant or insensitive and I'm pretty sure its not tripe as that's a kind of food that my dad used to feed to our dog! The only thing I can assume is that my assumption that the tenant in question chose to rent is the reason. Surely it can't be my gentle ribbing of your post on the equity ladder thread showing the accumulative costs of buying 6 houses?
Anyway you have not answered my question regarding how long notice you beleive the OP should give?
My apologies, I missread the 'ribbing'. I have been contending with a few wild accusations over the past few days. I reacted to your post without realising that it was a mickey take.
In answer to your second question I would recommend that any understandings gentlman's agreements made at the time of the contract signing are adhered to.0 -
change the locks and dump their stuff on the front lawn, no notice needed.
if they say anything, just say sorry change of circumstances!
that'll teach em for being good tenants! :rolleyes:0 -

I am a tenant that has been worried for some time that my landlord might want me to leave, it does cause a lot of stress and if there are children to consider then it's worse. If the OP works WITH the tenant, and can legally serve notice, then the best course IMHO would be for the OP to have a chat with the tenant, explain the situation, make sure that the tenant is on the local Housing register, and then when the tenancy is at it's end the Council/ HA may be able to find them a property. Failing this, ie if the local social housing stock is very low, then the OP can assist the Tenant in finding a new property with references etc. I have been lucky as my circumstances have changed, I have a better income and will hopefully be back on the Property Ladder before Christmas. Other tenants may not have that choice.0

Yes, logic would dictate that the tenants are making a nice profit for the landlord.why is moving back in your only option?
when you lived there you paid the mortgage, now the tenants are in they are paying rent which covers your mortgage. Surely this means you can afford to pay to rent somewhere else?
Or is this yet another pie in the sky wannabe property magnate that has decided that the miracle economy of HPI is all that is needed? The tenants are just a prop and the piddling rent is a Brucey Bonus, as never ending HPI is the true economy? Such things as tenants rights, etc, shouldn't come into it. Many BTLs are left empty purely because of this.
Anyone who obtains a Northern Rock BTL mortgage is an entrepeneur and genius too. Bradford & Bingley are the next crock.
