What do we do with them? Connect them to the hot water tank, storage heaters or central heating.
We don't have any storage heaters yet. Where, how would we save the most money?
Towser anticipates using/storing all the power he generates, so is not concerned about selling it back (FIT).
We have a multifuel Rayburn which does the water, heating, cooking and drying. The problem is we have to start a fire to get it all going. No good for getting out of bed in the morning when cold. We have never been able to keep the fire in.
It's certainly true that hot water would be more useful for more of the year. However, I reckon the cost of modifying my combi boiler based system will be in the £000s whereas as 2nd hand storage heater may be less than £50.
Even if it's not running over the summer, my feeling is it's going to be more cost effective,
Wanted-complimentary electric system that can be switched on via thermostat for short spells when the temperature drops or when we can't be bothered with the pfaff. The house in unevenly heated too-maybe we should have thermostats in each room. Is there such a system which is the best?
Will only use, mostly in the mornings when the fire has gone out and the temperature drops. An electric version of a combi boiler. Tricky system because of all the valves and thermometers to fit.

You might be better posing your questions in the Green and Ethical section of this forum as that is where the solar PV enthusiasts contribute.
A few points:
1. I assume they are solar PV(generates electricity) and not solar thermal(heats water.)
2. Five panels will probably only generate around 1kW and then only in the summer.
3. Do you have a inverter? Converts the panel voltage to Mains AC.
4. You won't get FIT unless the system is installed by an approved installer.
5. Battery technology is far too expensive at the moment.
5. IMO the benefits of a small system are not worth the costs involved.0 -
Could the moderator please move my thread to Green and Ethical section of this forum?
Could our system constantly heat up our water with DC current straight to a heating element without the need for an inverter?0
